The thing is with these undercover interviews is that they could possibly be making up the dialogue. That guy said Arnold wouldn't even be able to win a national these days. I think if Arnold had the supplements and other glitches we have now that they didn't have then, he would be out of this world.

Arnold was part of bodybuilding when it was still a developing sport. A lot has been made of his steroid use. I know he took them, but people also have to see the genetic superiority he had. He won major contests before he even touched steroids. He worked out four hours a day and he still got gains from it. He was incredible. Back then they didn't have creatine, whey protein, amino acid drinks or half as much as the professionals have today. Modern steroids are far superior now to what they were then. Bodybuilding was an underground sport. Now days scientists spend their living creating various supplements to help people achieve their various goals and assist them. Arnold also looked far more natural then any of today's bodybuilders. Who knows, if he was in his prime today - that may not have been the case, maybe he would have the rigid Ronnie Coleman physique, who incidentally i don't rate at all. His back is phenomenal and I still think that is the only thing he has over Jay Cutler to this day. I just personally think Arnold is the best bodybuilder to ever walk the planet. He was just awesome. In the 70s there was far more focus on symmetry and far less on size. Frank Zane for instance had a fantastic natural looking physique and I suppose since the release of Pumping Iron and bodybuilding becoming a worldwide sport, the monsters keep coming and coming. But like i say i've always preferred the 70's physique.

body building has gone nuts IMO. the likes of arnie, serge nubret, frank zane and franco columbu had much more impressive, proportionate and realsitic physiques than the freaks of today

yea i totally agree. was arnold on steroids? Yeah he was on Dbol.. It was actually back when they didnt know how toxic it was for the liver... Im actually shocked he hasnt had seriouse problems.. Maybe he got lucky.. Dbol would give arnold the puffy mass and strength to work with.. But yeah steroids were not as advanced as they are today.. I am sure people were not stacking them.. Stacking steroids for blood oxygen levels for reverse catabolism for enhanced protein consumption. etc... Ronnie coleman Jay cuttler = Both have used steroids as a matter of fact most professional body builders do.

Yeah, they use roids. Very very few people can reach the condition that they are in without them. Most people who body build and power lift and take roids still don't have the genetic make up to be as strong as people like ronnie coleman. I noticed that some of you said that taking the roids is cheating, and it's like they aren't really working as hard. I'm going to say that taking steroids is the exact opposite. Steroids give someone the potential to become stronger or larger (depending on the steroid). Taking a steroid will not just make someone stronger or larger. Furthermore, the major benefit of taking steroids isn't that it makes you lift harder, it's that it makes you recover from exercises faster. The one thing that really holds back weight trainers is over training. Lift too hard and too much, and you will find yourself making little progress. So when most body builders or powerlifters take roids, they are usually lifting harder than the average joe, because they don't fear over training. Ahhhhh....but nothing comes for free. Turns out there can be terrible side effects to taking steroids. Don't let anyone lie to you and tell you it's perfectly safe, because it isn't. Your body isn't made to have a large amount of excess hormones in it for such a long time. Sure some are better for you than others, oxyandralone (not sure about the spelling) is actually prescribed to some people to help with liver problems, but in the end they all have pretty harsh effects on the body. Under the care of a physician a body builder could probly have a pretty sucessful career using steroids without having to worry much about the physical side effects (if the physician knows what they are doing), but we all know this isn't the case with most body builders or power lifters. Last I heard Ronnie Coleman had been cycling different steroids for 4+ years continuously. I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I can't imagine it's the healthiest way to live. Since you guys are comparing Johnson and Coleman I'm wondering why none of you brought up Franco Columbo. He's tinier than Johnson or Coleman, and I've seen pictures of him deadlifting over 800 lbs. He was a very sucessful powerlifter before he became a body builder, and attributes his sucess as a body builder to his power lifting experience.
