Lots of questions! - Saturday, March 25, 2006 3:55 PM
Okay guys, I just introduced myself a couple days ago so I'm brand new here and I'm pretty stoked I found this site! I'm gonna have lots of questions on here.  I've been lurking for the past few days and it seems like we have a good group of experienced guys who are providing lots of good answers...that's great to see.  I'll have to pick some brains here...

First things first - I've been told that a weight training workout needs to concentrate on a muscle group and then wait about 48 hours before hitting it again...that this gives the muscle ample time to rebuild itself.  I've seen numerous references to this and I just want confirmation, that's all.

So, along those lines, I think I'd like to form the following workout routine:  Since I am usually free during the week and can spend more time at the gym mon-fri as opposed to sat/sun, I figured I'd put my preferred muscle groups on mon/wed/fri and my secondary preferences on tues/thurs.  Does this sound okay?  (my preference would be to build upper body and arms, especially chest.)
I also understand that I can do some treadmill walking for fat loss as well as do some ab exercises every day.  So a typical day would be: 20 minutes treadmill, 10-15 minutes abs, then target muscle groups depending on what day it is.
I'd like to start this routine on monday - let me know what you guys think.

I'm already long-winded here so I'll save the next couple of questions for later tonight or tomorrow.  Thanks guys!!
I'm a total noob so I dig any and all responses!

thanks,
-jet

yes it is best to give about 48 hours before working the same muscle(s). the best workout plan i have ever tried can be seen at mass-cycle.com. it is definatly worth checking out. if you have a gnc around where you live, you can pick up the book by them, its only like a dollar, and this way you will always have it when you need it.

and from what i have been told, working your abs out will just increase the definition and size of your ab muscles. if you want a six pack you should loose fat around your belly first. that is if you have that much to begin with, otherwise knock yourself out, but you should treat your abs like any other muscle and try to work them out real well.

loose the inches before you start your ab routine. trust me, you will only piss yourself off because you will not see results. working your abs does not lessen the fat in your belly. seriously.

i lost the inch in about a week and a half. my man boobs have gone down only an eighth of an inch, but its a hell of a lot better than nothing. i havent exercised at all, i have been working 10-12 hour days. and my job is continuously active. i am a stocker at a grocery store, so i walk fast all day, and i use a lot of lower back and shoulder work to lift and stock.

well walking is real good for you. i lost 70 pounds for the military by just walking and doing non weight exercises in just 8 weeks. but then again i was on the atkins. stay away from that sh*tty a** diet. it really screwed me over. when i weighed 180 i was nothing but flab, no definition what so ever. it sucked.

but like i said my job is real active, so i almost consider it to be an aerobic activity. i sweat my butt off. i dont know if i told you, but a week ago i started taking a mixture of yohimbe, fish oil, and flax seed oil. those three things aid in the loss of stubborn fat. which in most male cases is their chest. but i wouldnt suggest taking these things with any thermos or nitric oxides. i quit taking those when i started taking the new mixture. it has worked better for me.

Thanks, guys!!!
Hey Chisum - i DO work my abs every day, but I still need to lose about another inch or half inch off my waist.  However, I can tell that all the ab exercises are really hardening what's underneath. As far as I can tell, walking on the treadmill is helping to get rid of some belly fat.  How did you lose so much waistline so quickly? Was it just because of your job?  That's great, man...my job involves sitting around

At least I can see myself burning fat not only in the mirror but on the scale as well.  Besides, don't they say if you are burning fat that you wake up in the morning with a bitter taste in your mouth?  I have that

...or maybe it was that last relationship I had. Damn I crack myself up.

As for my other questions, I'll have to sleep on it and write more tomorrow.  Catch you guys later!

I'm not familiar with all those oils and stuff...what they are, where to get them, and how to ingest them.  But what I am supplementing with is some protein shake from GNC...it's a meal replacement and i can tell it works.  I have seen progress in terms of a little bit of muscle gain and that I'm able to more weight now than I was a couple of weeks ago. Other than that, I think the biggest thing for me right now would be to slow myself down (although i'm so motivated) and target the same muscles every other day...I've been doing everything everyday.  I'm probably lucky I haven't hurt myself yet.

really fast walking and jogging is what will really help you out. though cycling burns a lot of calories, i just dont trust it. i mean where is the movement? i like walking and jogging. that way i am moving my upper body, it really helps. but you could try the stack i take now. i think it has contributed a lot to my loss. and i stopped drinking all carbonated drinks and all i drink now is water. sometimes tea, but fresh, not bottled. stay away from high fructose corn syrup. it really adds to stubborn body fat.

another thing you could do is look up a military exercise routine. they have some cool exercises in their. and they have one where you start at a standing position and then you jump to the ground, do a push up, then get on your feet while still keeping your hands planted on the ground, then you quickly reach as high as you can. i have no idea what it is called, but they do a lot of repetitions of these and i tried them a long time ago and that exercise rocks.
