Questions on Leptigen...
-
Wednesday, February 11, 2004 3:02 PM
Hopefully Twin Peak will stop by and add his comments, but i have a few questions on Leptigen. What are some of the main ingredients? Like, is there ephedra in it? I know its banned now, but I always make sure before buying supplements. Also, how is it supposed to be taken? how many times per day, what times, etc... thanks!

No, it is ephedra free. Main ingredients? There are about 30-40 in the full LeptiGen formula. They are listed on the site. How/how much it is taken depends on a number of factors: * how significant is your daily caloric deficit? * what is your BF %? * what is your set point? * have you been dieting for some time, or just starting? But generally, you would take 2-5 servings per day. Also, in short time we will be breaking up LeptiGen into several different formulas: one for keeping leptin levels normal when dieting, one for the extremely overweight (i.e. increasing leptin sensitivity, as the overfat already have elevated leptin levels), one for bulking, and one for hunger suppression.

Setpoint is the BF% that your body likes to be. You know you are above it when dieting is pretty easy, then it becomes very hard. Likewise, it is hard to go way above that level even if eating is pretty poor. The higher above your setpoint you are, the less you'll need, the lower below the more. So the longer you diet, the leaner you get, and the greater your caloric deficit, the more you will need.

So, once i get down to a bf% my body "likes" it will harder for me to gain/loose weight? Or is this just pertaining to Leptigen?

Set point is where your body is happy, fat-wise. If you go below set point, then your body wants to put on more fat. If you go above set point, your body is more willing to let you lose fat. It most likely has to do the with the balance of a number of hormones, although most Americans gain a couple of pounds every year on average, and after a decade or so that really adds up. I've seen lots of product sthat claim to lower your set point, including hypnosis tapes and such. I haven't seen any evidence that any of them actually work though. For most people, their set point is higher than their healthy bodyfat level, so exercise and watching diet is necessary to keep bodyfat at a healthy level.

That was an excellent description of setpoint. To be clear, no one has ever claimed LeptiGen changes ones setpoint, temporarily or permanently, I only used setpoint, to help you determine dosing. There are however various drugs (prescription) that there is strong evidence that will change your setpoint, albeit temporarily.

Okay, so you are currently above your set point. I would suggest starting with a low dose of LG -- once per day. As you lose weight you will want to increase dosage. LG will help you stick to your diet as it will send the Fed signal to your body, and you will literally feel full. As you lose weight, you won't notice this effect as much (because leptin will begin to fall) -- that is an indication that you should increase dosage.
