Glutamine side effect
-
Saturday, January 17, 2004 1:41 PM
I am in my swim season right now so i am still lifting but i do a lot more cardio so i see it as a cutting period. I have not been keeping up with my glutamine intake but when i do take it at nights some times it feels like i have a week feeling in my knees and legs...anyone relate to that or have any input?

Hmmm..got me stumped. If ever I have any effects from glutamine, it's usually stomach related...never had any effects as you describe. Are you certain it's from the glutamine, if so, maybe it's past it's expiration date?

Second that. Check the expiration date. I've not heard of that. How much are you taking? Try switch the glutamine intakes to the days. Not anytime near bed. Maybe it has some reaction that just makes you feel odd. I've not read or experienced what you just described.

My hunch is that its a weakened feeling you are getting from getting ripped off -- since glutamine is a waste fo money.

Actually if you search the site you'll find T.P's article on why he doesn't like the stuff...there's a good long post on it as well..... As for myself, I don't notice any strength gains from it, but I do notice better recovery...I mainly supplement it at times of high stress, when I know cortisol is going to do damage for me, otherwise what's already contained in my protein powder is quite enough for me.

Thanks Shera. I am sure Marc will come by and link all that stuff. I have to question, iron, what you think is all the proof of efficacy? Yes, there are tons of "experts" who swear by it, and I heard Ronnie C after his latest victory say he takes it 5 times per day, but other than shoddy anecdotal evidence, there isn't a shred of proof suggestion glutamines efficacy. * Anecdotally, Glut does squat for me. * There are tons of studies that show that it does nothing for muscle growth or preservation in a healthy trained adult. * There is no evidence to the contrary.

The Ultimate Glutamine Thread People have posted their opinions here. There's links to studies. I think you'll find that glutamine helps burn victims and compromised immune systems. I don't see much evidence showing that it really does anything at all for muscle growth or preservation. However, if you give a man a sugar pill and it helps him bench 315 lbs.. Then.. I was and maybe still am a fan of glutamine. But honestly the link covers a lot of ground. You can add to it.. but most of the angles have been covered.

I'm a fan of Glutamine as long as you take it with enough carbs. Otherwise your body just turns it into sugar. I have no idea why it might give you a weak feeling in the knees.

* Anecdotally, Glut does squat for me. Man, I hate squats. I wish I would find something to do them for me too...

Glutamine never did anything for me. Maybe I'm a non-responder, if there is such a thing, but my personal experience is that it doesn't work.

I am starting to suspect that all the supplements I ever took were a waste of money. In the last 3 months I have lifted hard 5-6 days per week, eaten right, and only used protein powder and I've gotten the best gains ever in that amount of time. I think it's jsut when I take supplements is when I'm already lifting and eating right. I did start creatine last week, but at this point, I skeptical of even that! It seems to be the consistent hard work and good nutrition is where all my gains come from, not supplements.

No such thing as a "non-responder" to glutamine.

Twin's talking aobut BBB's post, which IS Glutamine. Hard to measure supplement effects without conducting a huge study. I do know that glutamine can be easily converted to sugar, so if you don't eat enough carbs it won't do you much good.

Hard to measure supplement effects without conducting a huge study. I nominate you. Start shopping my man. Do you need the link?? Chazz likes to think everything is about him. I was thinking of making a Chazzs' Corner forum.. he could post in there. About stuff. I'm also asking the developer of the forum is there's an avatar rotation program. Chazz found the stash and has changed it 40 times already. Last week he was Spiderman.. now he's the Captain.
