Creatine headache? - Friday, January 16, 2004 12:34 PM
Ok, this time I am starting Creatine for the first time in years. I am taking two rounded teaspoonfuls (about 10 grams) in the morning and two in the evening for the time being. I know to load or not to load at first is a topic of debate, but for now that's what I'm doing.

I feel like I have a sinus headache or something. Anyone else notice this? Am I getting a headache because I am overdoing it?

Are you taking 20 g a day then?

Why are you taking that much anyway? More is better?

I'm just following the label, it says to ake 5g 4 times a day for a week...

My headache is going full blown migraine. I'm gonna go lie down in a dark room for a while...

Belay that order. Just do 5-10g a day. Period. While the loading phase might get you up to snuff faster, you also can run into side effects of too much creatine. I've never heard of creatine headaches but back off a bit. Just do 5-10g a day.. and see if they subside.

You've also done a lot of very good, detailed, long posting.

Maybe staring at the monitor for long periods of time has done it as well.

I suggest getting a 21" LCD monitor. To ease the stress on the eyes.

I'm better now. I puked up my lunch once I got home (salad is probably the least pleasent thing to throw up), took some Advil and a nap. I really don't know if it had anything to do with the Creatine, but I'll take it eaiser in the future.

Eh, that's a migrane. I don't get them very often, and they are usually pretty mild. My FIRST one was like 15 years ago, and lasted THREE DAYS. At least all the ones since then have been over in a few hours at most.

I get migranes. I have a prescription but sometimes when im out, a soda and some asprine works pretty good. Or take something with a lot of caffine and asprine. Thats basically what the older migrane meds are. The newer ones, which i have taken, make the headaches a lot worse.

Whenever I get a migrane I force myself to vomit(not the smartest thing, I know, but for some reason it helps) after I vomit a take a asprin drink some soda and take a hot shower. Then I usually just have a mild pain.

I used to have some trouble with creatine and one day I started mixing it with seltzer water and it stopped. However I only did this my first "cycle" (I call it a cycle simply because I ran out). The second "cycle" gave me no trouble at all but then again I did not load that time.

The thing with migranes is, there is always a warning sign of when a migrane will happen. I get a weird sensation at the base of my skull. That is when i'll either take some meds or the asprine and caffine. If i dont take anything within 30 minutes, im in for a rough ride. The only thing that will save me is if i double the amount of meds.

Oh yeah, also the only time I get migranes is when I have not been getting enough sleep. Maybe you should start going to bed a bit earlier at night.

Vomiting does help, but it should be the last line of defense. A hot shower works sometimes since the heat opens up the blood vessels. A basic headache is the tightening of veins in the brain that restricts the flow of blood.

I don't know how well this will work for migraines, because they are pretty intense! - If you put one to two inches of really cold water in your bath and walk around for a bit; It should make the blood start to run toward your feet, and less of it in your brain. It works for me...

I don't get visual auras or anything like that as a warning sign, it's usually somehtng I don't realize was a warning sign until it's too late. Tursday morning I felt a pressure like a mask around my nose and eyes, but it went away. It came back Friday, and proceeded on to a full blown migrane.

I usually don't throw up, but Advil Liquid Gels and a cool, dark, quiet room are my favorite treatment.

Could it be from dehydration?

I tend to urinate a lot, when I'm using creatine. If your urine is dark yellow then dehydration could be the problem. Dehydration can definitely cause headaches.

I don't think so, I make a point of drinking a lot of water all day long. I think it was just a random migrane. I've cut back to 5g of creatine twice a day, and haven't had any problems since.

I get migraines also, for me its hereditary. One of those things I wish wasn't passed down to me by the family. I can tell when its coming on by vision loss and that numbing sensation through a good majority of my arms and face. I would not wish this on even my worst enemy its really bad, makes you want to blow your head away most of the time. I usually pop 4 -6 Excedrines and then try to get to bed as quickly as possible, and even then its not completly gone for 2 days.

Advil Liquid Gels are my poison of choice...next best thing to injecting them! The seem to work twice as fast as the regular kind, at three times the price. But when I'm in that kind of pain, I'm ready to pay ANYTHING to make it stop.

I started Creatine Monohydrate about a month and a half ago. I loaded x 5 days at 5 grams 4 x / day (per label) and now I take 5 grams per day.

I noticed I get a frontal headache if I take it with water only. If I take it mixed in Grape Juice or some other form of simple carbs I don't get a headache.

I have to wonder whether it helps blood glucose transport into the cells and thus when I took it with water only it caused a temporary hypoglycemia and headache.

Creatine shouldn't affect glucose transport by itself at all. Maybe just having it floating around in your blood changes the fluid balance somehow, where taking it with grape juice causes an insulin spike that pulls it out of the blood faster.
