More questions from a Beginner!
-
Thursday, July 28, 2005 11:29 PM
I am a beginner at this stuff and my education in nutrition is purely based on what I could find through the internet (thus this site!). My goal is to lower my body fat percentage. I am: Male. 6ft 5 212llbs 21% body fat (estimation from site, probably no where near accurate) I recently bought a protein powder, because I read somewhere that it is good for any goal because it helps with muscles or something. I am also staying away from carbs and fats. What I want to know is am I doing the right thing here? is there a crucial thing I am missing? How much protein should I take in a day assuming I just want to lose fat? Any feedback will be very helpful. Thanks

What is your Activity Level... For a Moderately Active Person you should be consuming 2500-2700 cals to lose 1lb a week... Atleast 200gram of protein... You should avoid Simple Carbs like sugar or white flour/white rice based products... Enjoy Complex cards, and taper them off throughout the day... Limit your fat intake by eating lean meats such as chicken breasts and Fish (Cod, Sole, Haddock, Tilapia)... Take EFA pills to make sure you are getting good fats that aid in fat burn, eat atleast 5 meals a day, I am doing 6 my outline: 6 egg whites Complex Carb of some sort Protein Shake Complex Carb Omega 3/6/9 pill Fish/Chicken Complex Carb Protein Shake Complex Carb Omega 3/6/9 pill Fish/Chicken Complex Carb Protein Shake Omega 3/6/9 pill The total Cals for this plan are 2000 or so, I am much smaller thatn you, Adjust serving sizes approriately, and See what other members have to say... Good luck! I'm off to eat Meal 1!

I'm not sure what my activity level is, but I feel pretty stuffed after every day. I go to the gym 6 days a week and do: Cardio: (NOTE: the numbers given are shown on the machines) 12 mins rowing - burning 200 cal 15 mins cycling - buring 150 cal 13 mins running (3min warm down) - burning 200 cal Resistance training (cable machines): (NOTE: I dont know the technical names for the exercises but I'll try my best) 3 x 9 - Bench Press 3 x 9 - Incline Bench Press 3 x 9 - Cable Push downs 3 x 9 - flat bench dumbell flyes (but with cables and lying down) 3 x 9 - close grip pull downs 3 x 9 - tricep pull downs (?) 3 x 9 - bicep curls 3 x 9 - leg extensions 3 x 9 - leg pushes (?) Abdominals: 3 x 12 - crunches on swiss ball holding 20kg on chest 3 x 9 - leg lifts (?) 3 x 1 minute - bridge I work 6 days a week too, for 3 hours straight from 6am constantly on my feet sorting mail. If I'm not at work or at the gym, I'm at Uni, and the only exercise I get there is walking between lectures etc. Do you think I'm burning enough calories based on this summary? Is my calorie burn in my cardio too low? I mean, to match 550(calories burned) against the 2500 that I'm supposed to be eating, thats no where near! Anyone's feedback will be much appreciated!
