Total newbie beginner looking for some direction... - Sunday, July 10, 2005 6:04 AM
Hello,

I have only JUST decided to begin working out about a week ago. But I have no idea what to do! I started using google to look up stuff on the internet, but it seems like there are so many different opinion. So I decided to seek out a message board for advice...and thus, here I am.

I'm quite a skinny, scrawny guy. I'd really like to put on some weight! I will be completely honest...I really don't care how strong I get...I keep reading about real world or usable strength...and I don't care. My goal for my muscles is to look decent. I'd like to gain a little bulk and definition. You know...to look "cut"...

Oh, but I do want to make my heart and lungs much healthier...and for that I have begun a running program! Hopefully that will help!

But I know NOTHING! As of this writing, a friend and I have worked out 3 times now. We just do random exercises...about every other day.

Could someone please advise me or point me to someone/some thing/some place where I can get some concrete instructions on what to do, how often to do it, how many times to do it, etc etc etc?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Also (my own personal pitch)

#1- Take a look at my signature.  I wrote a 250 page book on the subject for newbies.  If you don't want to shell out $29 that's fine.  Then at least sign up for the free beginner series.  You'll get a couple of free ereports with a crap load of info and the series itself which I wrote is like 12 emails full of very good info for beginners.

#2- Take a look in the ebook review forum down below.  Grab the Anthony Ellis Gain Mass report.  That's a freebie too.  Very basic info but if you are looking to gain weight and you are not doing those things he talks about in the report, then you can immediately make some corrections.

#3- There's a sample bulk diet in the Best of Nutrition top sticky.  That will help

#4 - There's a lot of info categories on www.justaskmarc.com (I've taken posts from here, articles, reports, and housed them there for easier reading)

lol here ill make is very simply for you if your just beginning then here is what you should do.
Do only compound exercises such as bench...since everyone uses that as an example and do only high reps light weight to get used to the exercises such as bench: i dont know your weight or mass or anything so ill do what i would do to get "cut" i would warmup 15 reps 135 12 reps 145 10 reps 165 and 8 reps of 175 now thats just for me you might wont to go heavier or lighter.

Here's are some really good sites for lifting, pretty much everything you need.  Also, make sure you know what body type you are, that's really crucial for developing a workout program.  Second site listed is for determining your body type.
