What kind of injuries have you sustained? - Thursday, April 28, 2005 3:58 AM
It seems inevitable that lifting weights for any decent period of time will result in some sort of injury - however minor or major. Shoulders seem to be the most commonly injured body part.

Personally, ive injured my back (doing squats improperly) and torn one of my rotator cuff muscles (intially playing sport and then due to poor spotting while doing incline dumbell press) & am still limited in my training due to these injuries.

However, it would be interesting to know what other body parts are troubling the rest of you and how these injuries have come about.

Bicep tendonitis
Rotator cuff overuse (mostly due to a snowboard crash)

I guess that's about it for now.  And hopefully forever!

BRAVO trick!

To be actively lifting weights at almost 50 after a run of injuries that youve had... well done! keep it up!

just goes to show that despite Doctors can only do and predict so much...Its good to see that youre still plugging away.

When you dislocated your shoulder, were u trying for more weight that you can handle or was it bad form or something else?

I tore my anterior cruciate ligament in right my knee 3 times with soccer, needed surgery for it twice. After the third time, i decided to call it the day with soccer.

Now everytime that im doing squats or lunges i get paranoid that im going to hurt the same knee again. Just the other day i heard a pop in my crook knee when doing squats. Ofcourse i stopped immediatley. there was no pain or swelling. i have no idea what it is. those kinda loud pop sounds usually indicate ligament rupture, especially in the knee.

I pulled my Hamstring realy badly when I was like 21...was quite a while ago.

Then about 1 year ago I pulled it again really badly (limping for a week).  I then pulled it again 3 more times becuase I was stubborn and didn't allow enough time to heal (you know how hamstring injuries can take a long time depending).  It's been fine since, but I won't lie when I say that whenever I have a heavy leg day, I'm always concerned the next day when I'm doing my cardio session that I dont' pull my hamstring again.

Oh and that elbow thing I still have right now hasnt' healed and it's been over 2 months now.  No one knows what the problem is (X-rays dont' show jack).  Anyways, I can't really do hammer curls or upright rows, but I can do other exercises that allow me to still workout my biceps and lats.  I really wish it would just go away...but I know I should probably just stop working out for about a month to let it heal.
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!

pappy you should check out the hamstring rehab exercises thread in the injury, rehab and prevention forum.

While you dont need rehabilitation per se, a lot of those exercises can be used for people such as yourself who have chronic hamstring trouble. One of my good mates who plays AFL (aussie football) has the same problem as you, constantly pullin his hammy.

I sent him that program and told him to stretch it every second day for 15 mins and also when warming up before a game and before he hits his legs in the gym and he has been injury free since.

if youre still having trouble, its worth a shot.

one of the worst! today hurts even more! Well call it being stubborn..I knew yesterday I was feeling too fatigued (Im resting from overtraining now)..but I chose to try to push through a set of good mornings. I have done these a trillion times, no prob. For some reason when I did them, I heard "crunch...crunch!" in my lower back. Didnt hurt when it happened but the noise made me nauseated LOL. I stopped and everthing tightened up about 5 minutes later. Today after laying in bed, it took me close to a minute just to get out of bed. Everthing is tight and I cant make any sudden movements or it is a sharp tight pain. Loosens up a bit when I force myself to walk around, but still can only walk in babysteps Ah well, at least now I KNOW I have to take a week off..LOL

Torn anterior cruciate ligament twice - both times in same knee - needed 2 operations for it, the new graft got infected and they had to take it out. So now im left with no ACL in my right knee.

Still hitting the legs pretty hard in the gym though.

Just cant play soccer ever again.

My left trap was a really problem area when I first started lifting.  Shrugs have helped.

Running injuries: tendonitis, shin splints, very large blisters (1 inch circumference on both heels, largest blister I have ever seen, hurt like a bitch)
Squat 385, Bench 235, Deadlift 450 @ 181.

what doesnt kill you make you stronger!

thats what i say!

...well i did say..til the accident

Im not sure if what i have is actually an injury...Its just plain odd...Im getting it checked out of mere curiosity rather than worry because its so weird, when i have confirmation my injury count might be 0 too

I do have an ankle abnormality from skateboarding.  I twisted, spraned, and fractured my ankles so many times from skateboarding.  I have atleast four pairs of crutches.  In fact, I don't walk right anymore.  I walk a little bit funny now.  You wouldn't notice it unless you hang out with me every day.

I also had a reoccuring wrist injury from boxing.  I would hit the other person so hard that I would nearly break my wrist on my right hand.  I quit boxing before I had the chance to actually break my wrist.

Injuries from bodybuilding: 0...

2 tramatic dislocations on my left knee.  Surgery for the first one.  Second one happened freshman year of college football.  Still nursing it.  Lost all mass on left leg.
