Shin splints - Tuesday, March 22, 2005 4:54 PM
I keep getting a shin spint in my left leg. Anyone know of a way to prevent them and what causes them ?

Landing on your heels causes shin splints. When you land on your heel, the next muscle to balance your body is your shin. So when you land on your feet (from jumping, walking, etc) make sure your toes/ball of foot hit first, as your calf muscle (better suited for impact than your shin) will be used to balance.

um, no offence but don't u think that u should consult your doctor about this? i mean there are a lot of experienced people in this site but the best thing to do before u get anything really bad would be to talk to your doc.

Not only that, but I had a torn soleus muscle that felt quite a bit like a shin splint. The only way I got rid of it was to have it properly diagnosed and the doctor gave me an anti-inflammatory shot. Give it some rest to see if it goes away. If it won't, go see a doc.
