girls girls girls! - Saturday, February 26, 2005 10:40 PM
It's so exciting to see that there is a forum for the girls here! I'm new to the site, you can see a little abt me in the "Introduce yourself" section. I am looking forward to all DB has to offer, just looking around it looks like a gold-mine of info.
It looked like this section could use a little beefing up so I figured I'd give us something to talk about. I am a personal trainer who took a few years off to do the mommy thing. Now that my kids have gotten a bit easier to handle, I'm getting back into it. I have to admit that I will be also getting myself back into the swing of things. I am still in pretty good shape, but softer than I want to be, or ever have been. I eat a good diet and am somewhat sparatic with my cardio. I keep up on my toning/abs/p-ups and so on, but havn't hit heavy wts in quite a while. It will be very interesting to see where I'm really at in the gym.
Anyhow, I am so happy to have found this site and will keep you posted on how things go in my transition from mommyville.
Until next time take care!

Emily, mother of 2

Welcome, I am a mother of three, a lot older than you and I work hard with my own personal trainer to be healthy and fit. I think I am the ideal client - I do everything he says in the gym and out of the gym in terms of nutrition. I have had amazing results and am very happy with my body today. It's great to have someone who knows what they are doing and has faith in me when I don't have it in myself. This women's forum doesn't move much but keeping up with the other forums is enough most of the time. We need more girl-power here !!

Hi Emily! I too am a Mommy who is tired of being too soft! I used to do a lot of resistance training in High School...(long, long ago) and since I had my son, I have noticed weaker muscle tone and strength. That's what brought me here...am working on the diet right now...once I get that mastered we will move to the HEAVY stuff!

Glad to have you on board...

oh Hey!!!!  I have been talking to danmirage and he has given me some GREAT info.  I would also like to get some info from you on how you got started, what programs do you follow and any beginners advice.  I want to eventually compete...not quite there yet.....but any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!  I know men and womens bodybuilding and fitness are not that far off, but I like to get advice and/or opinions from both.   Here's a link to my thread that dan and I have been talking back and forth about.  Some input would be great http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/m_106666/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm#108252

Thanks:)

Fran

oh Hey!!!!  I have been talking to danmirage and he has given me some GREAT info.
yeah he rocks!
I would also like to get some info from you on how you got started,
health issues and a goal to get on stage...
 what programs do you follow
I try all types and cycle my training.  You can view my sample blogs, I have a few, one on Yahoo 360, one on myspace and one on the Extreme Fitness Forum.
I like supersetting, trisetting as you can do tons and in short periods, love kickboxing, plyometrics, occasionally I circuit to lower body fat if needed.....tons of conditioning surround my  normal weights to keep the stabilizers injury free and able to assist my compound muscle groups to lift heavier

and any beginners advice.  I want to eventually compete...not quite there yet.....but any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Well i would look at your physique needs, where are you weak in strength, balance symmetry.....attend to that while working on lean muscle gains and fat loss.  Get into eating every 2-3 hours clean for 5 days on and you can cheat weekends for now.  It helps you get used to the diet stuff before hand.  Depending on which class you want to compete in you can do some things for skills if you do fitness.  But I would need ot know more.

I know men and womens bodybuilding and fitness are not that far off, but I like to get advice and/or opinions from both.   Here's a link to my thread that dan and I have been talking back and forth about.  Some input would be great http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/m_106666/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm#108252

Set a date for a year from now then you can work toward this and be prepared for the costs involved in competing, dones of small details.  Lean down diet, carb up and that is all for later, for now concentrate on body shaping, and conditioning.

Does this mean that I will have to check this forum more than once a week since discussions will actually take place here? How exciting!

Well I am going to get even more serious.  Competing in the natural circuit has made me slack compared to the non nats.  I am going to continue to compete natural but in the non tested arena.  I did not come in lean enough at the last show so am going to shred for April. have to shed my fear of 'smallness'.  I like bulk and hate looking tiny and feel so tiny when I am super lean but that is what is winning in the federation I need to place well in.
The naturals also don't like outer area too large on the body such as lats, shoulders and quads but now in this federation I need to exaggerate those same areas I have been toning down.
X frame is what one competitor told me, she has been in that federation in the past few years while I have been totally out of touch with it so she clued me in on a few items I need to focus on, and I have to get over my fear for loss of size and really shred.

toning down? Do you mean better definition/lower body fat? Shouldn't you know by now that "tone" is often used in the wrong context by people. ;)
