probably not, but it is something to try to rule out in a logical problem solving progression. Only because the focus is slightly different, so odds are you are right he should have pain with both, but if he doesn't than that narrows the scope in finding the real problem.

I dont know if you can get a 6-pack with planks, haha.

but they really help with your core stability. weighted planks can be a real challenge depending how long you hold them.

Not a tread jack but its been mentioned on the last post...

Those planks.. do they workout abs as doing crunches or do they just give you more stability? By giving you more stability it must have created something... what's the difference ?

Planks are primarily used to raise the base strength of the abdominals.  For instance, someone who does not workout would have an ab strength of one unflexed, someone who works out would have three, someone who does planks would have five.  It's primarily for injury prevention.

right, which is why i said you probably wont get 6 pack abs from them, but the will raise your core stability, i.e. ab strength.

Indeed.  I was just adding to your very thorough and wonderful explanation about the benefits of planks. .

Nic

As far as I can remember, a chin up is the same as a pull up !!

BUT, in theory, a pull up is done with a pronated grip and chin up is done with a supinated grip.

Still...same thing

You remember incorrectly Nic.  A supinated grip forces you to pull more with the biceps, forearms and even a bit of the chest.  A pronated grip forces you to pull more with the back, and shoulders.

Therefore they are different exercises.  There is no way to target your back doing a chinup, as the grip cannot be widened without serious risk of wrist injury.

chinups and pullups have been hurting me as well, but it seems that each workout i do they hurt a little bit more...

i was suprised at how quickly im getting better at them; 3 reps to 8 reps in a little over a week of doing them consistently (im bulking right now :) ). I used to do them last year though.

Tuesday's workout I could only do 2 pull-ups, last night I did 3.  Saturday I'm looking for 4.  I'm going to keep adding 1 until I get to my goal of 2 x 5.

Adding one pull-up a session is very reassuring.
