In terms of bodbuilding I would have to say that I think splits are the way to go. If you want a perfectly symetrical build then you need to do splits. In terms of strength and growth when starting out, full body is the way to go. When you have reached a certain level or you compete in BB shows, you need to be doing a split to get every little muscle as stimulated as possible. I also don't understand why people think if you are doing a split that you don't do compound lifts. Don't get me wrong, I like fullbody routines but I also don't know of any bbers that just do full body all year round. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you always include compound lifts and make those the focus of your training.

I would have never thought I would be challenged with this topic: full vs split. So, I am @ the dojo gym place getting my squats on. I am loading my bar. Got the neck pad :) The owner asked me how many times I train legs. I told him. I told him I like to do a full body training session and I do squats all the time. He told me I was wrong and that full body is not good. This is what he said: It: full body is not good. ask anyone here. Me: but I like full body. It works for me. It: get on line and read books. ask anyone here. You train 1-2 body parts a sessions so that you can see results and gain strength. Me: but it is working for me It: It wont for long--hey (he called out one of his trainer people) which is better full or split. she does full and trains legs a lot in the week. The other idiot: oh my god. split of course. you are buidling "pretty muscle" when you do full. It is not functional. I never do squats. Me: I said I like squats. squats are fun!! The idiot then said: if it is fun you are doing it wrong. I was sooooo caught off guard with all this crap. I go the next day and waved hi...he looked at me and ignored me (this is the owner. I could care less if it was another member. I felt just dumb because it was the owner and I have known him for years). have no idea where this is coming from. I felt stupid I think I will frequent the powerlifter gym. I have been told "hey you can do it better let me help you." I have no problem with that. none. I welcome it. it is intmidating as f*** to go into the weightroom w/ only guys. the reality is not many girls lift. it is a "guy" thing. It is intimidating as f*** to step on the treadmill with hawt girl w/ big fake melons is next to me. I still show up. yeah it is my issue but I do not allow it to stop me from doing what I have grown to love. my point (I went to subject-thanks for reading this far) mind your business. no reason to be rude. full/split who cares? as long as goals you set are being reached. I am done venting.

Those sound like some of the guys I was refering to in my post, reading muscle mags every month to get the latest tips on each isolation... Im sorry you had to go through that, I cant really imagine how hard it must be just going to the gym as a female. Like you said it is usually perceived as a guy thing. This debate will go on forever, when there are hyper space gyms in the year 3,000 there will be this debate. Jane I would have never thought I would be challenged with this topic: full vs split. It's like math, you can learn all the different methods in calculous or algrebra, but untill you learn to use them together, they serve no use to you. What i'm trying to say is full body is the way to go. Not only is it more helpful to someone playing sports (it adds power and functuality to the muscle) but it's just way funner in my opinion.

If I try to do full body, I overload some internal system, and get severely ill - to the extent of throwing up. Eventually, I hope to work into it, but right now, just can't.
