I never once said to "powerlift". People still don't understand me. I have never "powerlifted" yet. I have been considering beginning to start training like that though, but I have never trained like a powerlifter.
I say lift heavy, and always go heavier as often as possible. There is a HUGE difference between powerlifting and just simply lifting heavy.
I say eat a lot, and if you can do it by eating 100% clean and still be gaining weight, do it. Chances are though that most people eventually will hit a point where they just simply can't eat enough calories to continue to gain weight, so they may have to resort to more caloric dense foods.
If you train intensely enough (intensity meaning how heavy you are training in respect to your 1RM), you
WILL NOT get fat. You may lose sight of your 6-pack, and you may have a little belly, but you WILL NOT all of a sudden look like this:
But if you do things right you may end up looking like this:
