Re:New Deadlift PR!!!

Question...why is that? It seems like in certain lifts, there are just spots of progress that seem to progress a lot faster than others. All mental? Like I hear people say it's hard to get to the point where you are doing sets at 205, but once you get there, it seems like it's not long before you are doing 225. (just an example). Anyways, congrats man. Monster of a lift, already waiting for a thread about 400x5.

Thanks again everyone. Ya, I'm happy as hell about it. Every 5 lbs. I add just seems to be the same thing - a brutally hard set of deadlifts. But each 5 lbs. doesn't seem much heavier then the previous workout, so I guess you're right Stallone. I want to take a video when I hit 405. Hopefully I hit that within a few months.

Oh ya, Wyrms - hell ya! Squat and deadlift a lot (power clean too!), and getting bigger and stronger is inevitable.

I feel like a pretty strong guy until I read these sorts of threads. :\ But congrats Bri! Hard work is paying off for sure. At that weight are you having to use straps or a belt? I'm sure I have a long ways to go until I'll worry about using either of those but was just curious.
Age: 26 Height: 5'10 Weight as of 8/31/08: 160lbs. Current weight: 178lbs. Semi-Clean Bulkin! Current Maxes as of 6/4/08: Squat: 250lbs. Deadlift: 255lbs. Bench: 285lbs.

Yes.. lol. I'm guessing all those 3 main lifts are pretty even now (haven't maxed in about 3 months). When I worked out off and on in college I neglected legs b/c I thought they were not "necessary". I just got back into lifting less than a year ago and only got serious about legs about 6 or 7 months ago. Needless to say my chest had a lot of muscle memory from before and my legs had none. :p You should feel fortunate to have the knowledge you do at your age. But I'm making up for lost time! I have a feeling by next summer the ratios between my maxes should be about right.

Congrats there buddy. I guess sometimes it takes that first (with a lighter weight maybe) just to get your body prepared.

brihead301 Nah man, no straps or anything. That's awesome man. I'd like to think I'll never have to use straps or a belt for any of my lifts, but wasn't sure if it was realistic or not. At least I know I won't have to be worrying about it for awhile.

I do everything raw. I don't like the idea of belts. My program is basically just SS, but I do different rep ranges to suit me better: Workout A squat - 3 x 10 OH press - 3 x 8 - 10 Deadlift - 1 x 5 Chin-up - 2 x 10 Swiss ball crunch - 3 x 15 Workout B squat - 3 x 10 Bench - 3 x 8 Power Clean - 3 x 5 Pull-up - 2 x 10 Decline leg raise - 2 x 15 Just alternating between A and B. I make increases in weight every 3 workouts for everything EXCEPT deadlifts. I increase deadlifts everytime I workout. I was doing all 5's as SS says to do, but I got injured, so I switched to higher reps with slightly lighter weight. Now, the weight's starting to get pretty heavy again, and I'm almost at the point where I'm doing sets of 10 squats with the weight I was previously doing for sets of 5! In a nutshell I just keep trying to go heavier and heavier.
