Cutting is that easy?
-
Thursday, July 10, 2008 12:15 AM
Hey everyone! Ok I might become obnoxious with that show but on the UFC i see the people cutting before their fights from like 185 to 170 in 2 days, that blows my mind because all they do is put a sweater on and hop on a bike and whatnot and just make their weight to fight. Who does sometime I hear people on the forum saying they bulk on winter n cut for summer etc etc? why not bulk all time and just cut when you need to? Everyone has a bike, everyone has a sweater.... Is it because the ufc way they lose muscle on the process or anything? I don't understand, hmm

They put nearly all of it back on... they just need to make whatever weight requirement for the weigh in, then most put as much back on as they can for the actual fight. Thats what I have been told, I've trained but never actually done any organized fighting, so maybe im wrong ORIGINAL: BodyBuildingNovice Hey everyone! yea but that's not what I meant. THey are 185 and they got 1 week to bring it to 170.. they've been slacking for the whole week long so they end up 2 days to go down 10 pounds, OMG ! IMPOSSIBLE I GOTTA MAKE THE WEIGHT! so they put their jackets on, hop on the treadmill or bike and just get going till they can't move anymore, 2 days after they do the weight. Here people keep saying they'd like stuff to go faster but they take 2 whole seasons to cut/bulk? If you do the maths, something is wrong... 2days 10 lb cut vs 2 seasons cut? hmm

You have around 20lbs of **** sitting in your intestines, these people are obviously roiding or PH ing, both of which are very good at cutting fat, they probaby take laxatives, and many vitamins to flush the entire body out, and also exercise to exhaustion for the 2 days to burn off as much as they can. I can lose 10lbs of water weight after a night of heavy drinking, and even more once the beer sh!ts start coming. Its not difficult, its just flushing the system of extra crap (literally) that you dont need. Its not that healthy.. However i do agree that some people take way too long to cut around here, theyre too worried about losing muscle and as a result there calories are too high, ive seen some cutters here with 2500 calories, eh, its just not going to go that fast @_@ I dont mean go way low, but if its slow progress, knock of 250 when bulking the general advice is "add another 250 calories" say "lower 250 calories" to a cutter and its sacrilige....I dont get it?? surely both logics work with each other perfectly?

My good friend is an MMA fighter...To cut weight, he doesnt eat, drinks very little, puts on a plastic sweat suit and rides a bike in the sauna for an entire day. They literally carry him to the weigh in. He has dropped about 20 lbs in a day, but puts it all on the next day.

I used to wrestle and now do powerlifting so I've cut weight like this before. It's all water weight, and sometimes when you have no water left there is senna(herbal laxative). I Just cut until I'm 2-3 lbs away then the rest of the weight will float off if i'm careful about eating and drinking the rest of the day. When I cut it usually consists of running with all of my swetpants and sweaters on with parachute pants and a windbreaker on top. I lift at 165 and usually weigh in at 162-163, but during the competition I weight around 170.The most I've dropped is 15 lbs in 1 day. But I have friends that have dropped 30 or more in 2 days.
If it wasn't painfully difficult then you didn't do it right age:18 5' 81/2" 173 lbs goal : 195 supplements: Multi, fish oil

wow they must lose so much muscle. doesnt that hurt your lifts when you powerlift though? i would think it would be more beneficial to stay in your weight class and build strength there

I only have to cut around 6 lbs for lifting and don't really lose any strength when I do.

You gain a good bit of it back by the time you're in the ring as it's water weight and you can get in plenty of water and 2-3 meals between weigh in and fight depending on when they are. One of the guys I train with (who's really good) trains at 177-182 and then cuts to 155 to fight. It's almost unfair how badly he beats on these guys who train at 160-165 and cut to 155. I personally train at 125 but can cut down to the lowest class -105- for females for weigh in. By the time I step in the ring I'd be 118 at least.

I was referring to mostly water weight, which is what everyone already elaborated on. They train and fight at a higher weight but cut down to a targeted weight to give themselves an advantage... One of my friends used to get big ol meals in and drink pedi-a-sure's those childrens vitamin drinks to get his weight back up. ORIGINAL: BodyBuildingNovice yea but that's not what I meant. THey are 185 and they got 1 week to bring it to 170.. they've been slacking for the whole week long so they end up 2 days to go down 10 pounds, OMG !
