Starting low in a squat?
-
Friday, June 20, 2008 1:05 PM
I don't like using the bench in my room for squating because the barbell holders being raised are probably much weaker than if they are down to the lowest position. I don't know if deadlifts work the quads enough so I'm wondering if it is safe to start a squat in a lower, knee bent, position, rather than standing. Can I get away with this?
180.4Lbs, 5'11", BF%=18? 155.0Lbs, Goal Deadlift:285(now 255) F-BB-Bench:3X5 205lb Squat: 1X5 175lb

Deadlifts work your low back, quads, hamstrings and traps. They pretty much hit the entire body. As for starting the squat down low, I imagine that if you are able to get the weight up you'd be fine, but it isn't ideal.
12 week High Intensity Training program in progress. Looking to make major gains in mass. So far, so good.

It's not ideal, but you can do it The thing is that it's a lot safer to load/deload the bar from your back when you're upright in a confortable position for your knees, hams, and back
Squat max - 245lbs Bench max - 188lbs Deadlift max - ¿? Front Squats(atg)- 5x165lbs
