Monthly Supplament Cost - Saturday, June 05, 2004 6:36 PM
I'm planning to start a work-out/weight loss program and am considering taking supplements. Right now I'm planning on taking a multi vitamin and whey protein (for it's muscle development and fat burning benefits) what other supplements would you guys reccomend? Also, what is your average monthly expenditure on supplements?

Honestly, if you're just starting, you don't need much more than that. You mention that you're also doing this to lose weight, in which case I'd suggest that you might want to pick up some fish oil and consider SesaThin.

Oh yeah... Welcome to DB!

Yeah, they're pretty much all the same with a 180mg EPA/120mg DHA per gram of oil breakdown. I think Now Foods makes a fish oil cap that's got higher levels of EPA and DHA, but I'm not sure what it's called (maybe Super EPA?).

I just get mine from Sam's Club...

Well, so far my favorite is ON's Chocolate Mint flavor 100% Whey, but I've got two jugs of Metabolic Whey on order from www.supplements101.com, and I hear that it's pretty good stuff (won't know until it arrives though).

I like the Metabolic Whey, but I have only tried one other Whey and it was the cheap stuff from GNC. So compared to that, it was great.

I get my Fish Oil from costco. I saw a Consumer Reports article once about fish oils and it compared some of the fancy fish oils with the ones from sams/costco and they were all essentially the same, content wise. But price-wise, the sams/costco versions were a fraction of the cost.

How much you spend will be based on how much protein you will drink in a day. I take 2 scoops a day - one in my oatmeal, one for my post-WO shake. Most 5 lb jugs are approx 70 scoops and $30, so that will last a little over a month for me. I get approx 200g protein per day, but get the rest from real food.

NOW Foods fish oil gives me nasty fish burps.

Costco and BJ's have both been fine.

Costco

Second that. I get a nice huge bottle of Fish Oil from Costco. Good prices. Decent amounts of the necessary Omegas. No burps that are unbearable.
