Need help leaning out - Wednesday, September 27, 2006 7:58 PM
Looking for a workout to help me lean out.  Not interested in getting really big, just want to be toned out really well.  I have never lifted like this, i have only lifted to gain muscle and i'm looking to get a basic idea of what i should be doing.  thanks

apparently to get lean you have to eat everything and put on like 30lbs of mass. Trust me this is the response you will get. And you also need to post pics cuz if your like 300 Lbs then nvm that, but if your super skinny then yes gain like 40lbs of muscle

hmmmmm, well the reason people ask new people to post pics is to get a good idea of what that person has to work with from the start...and yes, for someone that is particularly skinny and has little muscle mass, what would be the point of cutting? to show the muscle that hasnt developed yet? if he is 300 lbs then, i'm sure people here will be more than happy to recommend a workout and good cutting diet that doesnt require eating everything in sight and gaining mass...your rash generalization of people's responses just makes you seem ignorant. we know nothing of this guy, as this is his first post and you go off making witty remarks, offering nothing but sarcasm.

diet and cardio are key to lowering your body fat %, but you can't choose where you lose the fat from, if it is evenly distributed over your body, then your body will burn whatever is most easily accessible at the time...are you working out right now? if so, just post your diet and workout, so i can see what your doing at the moment.

As jkoelmel said, cardio and diet are gonna play a big role in fat loss. You may have a six pack under your "gut", but you have to burn the fat to get it to show. High reps and low calorie diet will be your key.

Ps. whats up Phat Boy

You’re 5’ 8 and 200 lbs. If I’m not very wrong, then you feel and look heavily overweight, right? Four months ago, I was 191 lbs (at 5’ 9), so that’s about comparable and I did feel and look fat like heck. I just started lifting weights. I’m still about the same weight, but much leaner. To give you an idea, my waist was 62 inches, and now it’s 45. That’s 17 inches less in four months, or about 1 inch loss per week. Since it worked for me, I’d tell you to do the same thing: go and lift weights. I didn’t do any cardio whatsoever and didn’t change my eating habits until very recently. Go for it and hit the weights, you’ll love it in no time at all.

Take a pic of yourself before you start. I cannot tell you how much I regret that I didn’t do this. In a month, take another pic. And after two or three months, post those pics here. It will encourage others to hop on the wagon.

for some reason i doubt that you had a 62 inch waist and were only 191 lbs...typo perhaps?

No, not a typo. It's a wrong conversion. My waist was 124 cm / 48 inches, now it's 90 cm / 35 inches. So that makes 13 inches loss. Still a good result.
