New member, First time lifter with a few ?s

I would like to start off with introducing myself by saying, "Hello everyone." I have never seen this forum before and it looks very lively, which is awesome. -Well I have just started to weight lift with dumbbells because I had a set laying around and decided to build some strength in my left arm because it was very weak compared to my right arm. (In other words I am right handed.) I also wanted to gain some muscle mass on my left arm because when I flexed with my left, it was flat as a plank. I have been lifting for about 3-5 weeks and am having weird results. For instance when I started, my right arm was much stronger than my left arm and my left muscle when flexed/unflexed was smaller than my right. (Right was noticeably bigger) Well since then, I have gained some strength and I assume some muscle. Left arm went to struggling with 6lb bells to 20lb bells easy. Now when I flex with my left arm I can most definitely see my muscle, but it isn’t as big as my right arm. Strange thing is that my left arm’s mass is smaller than my right, but is much stronger. What I am saying that my left can easily lift 20lb dumbbells 15 times easy, but my right with the same weight, can barely do 10 times and not only that but, my left is smaller than my right. I understand that I have just started to lift and I’m not expecting results right away. What I am asking is what I am experiencing normal? I have been doing mainly curls. What other exercises can I do with bells? Cliff notes: -Hello -Started 3-5 weeks ago -Left arm was weaker and bigger than right arm/ Right arm was bigger and stronger than my left arm. - Gained strength in my left arm and some muscle. - Strange thing is left is stronger but is smaller than right. Now right is bigger but weaker.

What you need to do is work them both evenly. Your right arm is larger because you've been using it all your life. Your left arm is getting stronger because it's being trained for that specific motion more than your right. So the answer would be to work them with the exact same amount of weight and reps.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the answer. So basically now I should start to work them evenly so that strength in both arms will be equal, but will this also eventually even out the mass/looks of both arms? Ha ha. I don't wanna walk around town with one really buff right arm and a little flimsy looking left arm.

Yep, they'll eventually even themselves out, you just need to treat the the same.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies. I thought I was doomed to having one big arm and one small arm.
