i smoke a minimum of about 2 grams a day...sometimes less, sometimes a LOT more. as long as you only munch out on good calories...then it can't really hurt. It's the only way I can get enough food in me each day ;-). I never train stoned though...i just wouldnt have a drive.

smoing weed in any shape or form is BAD for your health. The effects seem to be either prolonged or delayed. But there will be effects, regardless of who you are. The effects can include cancer.

(to NaturesAnimal88): Marajuana is 100% natural unlike soda, candy, and everything else most Americans eat truck loads of every year. I would be worried about the hundreds of negative effects of eating these unnatural things (obesity, heartdisease, etc.) then the possible negative effects of someone who smokes a bowl every once in a while. "There will be effects."? Who are you?

Anyway, I wouldn't think that your recreational activities should interfere with your lifting as long as you keep it within reason.

Inhalation of any kind of smoke can cause lung cancer, make no mistake about it.

Sure bet it can cause lung cancer, but the majority of people dont smoke marijuana nearly as much as those who smoke cigarettes on a pack a day basis.  Not to mention that a lot of people who smoke marijuana daily smoke it from such aparatises as bongs, vaporizers, or other things that reduce a lot of the carcinagens.

The census on people who have died directly because of marijuana is still 0...

That is a lot less than alcohol, steroids, obesity due to terrible food...

The question was does it hold you back on your training. Not does it hold back your training in comparison to obesity, cigarettes, alcohol, etc.

To the original poster, as long as you can control your munchies it's fine. Don't workout high, when you need coordination and concentration coupled with 100's of pounds, its dangerous and you'll just feel lazy and uninspired anyways.

RE: smoking weed - Sunday, May 21, 2006 12:32 PM

There have not been any known cancer deaths from weed.  The us GVT still sends it to the last remaining members of the group they were sending medical marijuana too, but soon after the law was passed to make it illegal, pushed by a rope company hoping to vie for its sole rights.......they stopped the program and only the last few alive are still on this program- the program alone would not have been implemented if the US govt had fears of it harboring negative effects.  It has shown to help many sick people and help control diseases such as MS, parkinsons and helping cancer treatment - now my point is not to say you should train stoned......actually you want to focus and be straight, but it has been studied showing to help recovery especially in those who have a hard time winding down such as those with mild ADD etc.
There are a ton of clinical links, no biased, which have some great FACTS on this.

haha, is THC a supplement?

smoking is so interesting... I hold it back to about once a month or once every two months, used to do it a lot more frequently. Some of my [closer] friends do it almost every day, so it's tough when they offer to smoke you up for free.

Question:

Do you think it holds your training back in any way?

Answer:

From the limited studies done and observation below, I believe it does hold back your training in some way.  You simply asked if it holds it back in "any way."

Sure.  Just like me having 1 beer every week would technically.

But how much does it hold it back?  Does it hold it back to any noticible effects at all?  How much is too much and if I smoke every so often, does it matter?

That can be debated.

The holding back in some way might be so minisule in many ways that you'd never notice anyway.

But you did ask and I do believe that anything (chemicals, candy smoking, drinking) all can hold you back in the most minor of ways.

Just answering the question but not making any specifics mind you.

"Perhaps a greater problem than the paucity of useful drugs for treatment of nutritional disease is the excessive number of drugs taken by our population that interfere with nutrition. On a global scale, malnutrition may be due to lack of food supply, but for middle-class Americans, the taking of drugs which interfere with proper nutrition is a greater problem. The variety of strange substances that people put into their mouths instead of food, e.g., alcohol, amphetamines, xanthines, thyroid hormones, cigarettes, marijuana, [SD, sedatives, tranquilizers, narcotics, all have adverse effects."

I can't believe no one took the opportunity to bust this.  Produces estrogen? thats probably the stupidest thing ive heard in a long time.

But anyway, i use it recreationally on the weekends, i usually don't work out while high but I have in the past and its not much different to me.

Please don't train stoned. . . intoxicated . . . or in any other mind-altered state.  It's a question of safety, nothing more or less.

There's a couple of huge guys at my gym who've trained stoned before.  They're the exception, not the rule.  They're true stoners, the type who swear that it enhances everyday things.  Weed doesn't make them slow, it makes them focused.  It's funny watching them because they use perfect form.  Their movements are slow and controlled and they flex their muscles at the peak of their lift.  They almost even convinced me to try it.  Im' not 100% opposed to it because I smoke to releive the pain of my gout.
No, I'm not on steroids but thank you for asking.

Weed doesn't make them slow, it makes them focused.

Haha, I think that's the point where my friends are up to now. They need it to either have a good time or just be focused.

Marijuana smoke can be much more damaging than tobacco smoke..  debate all you want but if you continue to destroy the cells in your mouth, throat, lungs and not only that but your o2 levels will deminish along with your state of mind you wont look to pretty, nore feel good anymore.. + u are messing with your BRAIN with MIND ALTERING chemicals..  It is fact that foreign substances that alter brain function will have LONG TERM DAMAGE WITH CONTINUED USE!  The dude who says he smokes atleast 2 grams a day..  I bet if you have no way of getting some weed for 1 day you will be pissed and lash out at ppl for no reason..  I know all this sh*t because I smoked my ass off for about  6-7 years and I think its one of the biggest mistakes I have made..  When you smoke atleast 2 grams a day you are a drug addict whether you like it or not and I'm not here to bash you but I quit smoking and it has screwed with my head so much that I feel messed up when I am sober now.. Its harder to maintain concentration and such..

if you dont smoke weed then dont f*cking do it ok?

No need for it, all it does is take your focus off of real life and put you in a dream world!

hey if u wanna do that you might as well have someone open your head up and sh*t in there lol..

ive always had a hot temper, so im not sure id be any more likely to lash out on people than before i started smoking. I DO know that i like who i am when i have SOME weed in my system...not necessarily high though. it really helps me stay calm and take things as they are and not bug out. to each his own.

i smoked earlier today. 1 gram between 4 people and we were all really, really high. It's that bay area weed. How can you go through 2 grams a day, which is 40 dollars worth over here?

maybe you should all remember...marijuana increases estrogen levels, and in prolonged use can cause gyno.
