The question of taking an NO product and L-Glutamine comes up often. As you know, AKG/AAKG are vasodiolators and convert to Nitric Oxide Gas. The nitric oxide gas expands our blood vessels which will accelerate a certain amount of blood, oxygen & nutrients that travel to the muscle tissue.
Nitric Oxide and L-Glutamine will work together to a certain extent. However, LG (a nitrogen transporter to the muscle cell) is not bonded to an AKG/AAKG and when an
excessive amount of LG is taken, it doesn't know where to go in the body. This will cause less absorption of the NO into your system because now the excess LG will convert to ammonia which will then prevent some of the transformation of AKG/AAKG to NO. That's why some supps containing an NO formula will state not to take more than "X number" of grams of L-Glutamine per day with an NO supp.
Further, an increase in ammonia can have a toxic effect and may lead to a decrease in specific enzymes & increase damage to cells by generating free radicals.
