 lower back workouts

lower back workouts - Friday, December 10, 2004 9:25 PM
i have a question......when i do squats it kills my lower back. i think its because i dont work out any lower back. can u guys let me know some workouts for that?? thanks

Or else your form is incorrect. Maybe leaning too far forward. Not keeping a nice straight back on the decent?

You can work lower back by:

Stiff leg deadlifts
Deadlifts
Reverse hyper-extensions
Supermans
Dumbbell Stiff Leg Deadlifts

Those will target the lower back as the primary muscle group with varying degrees of difficulty.

Not sure how to do one of those? Check the top of the Training forum where it says "How Do I Do A Particular Exercise" There's video links and such at that location.

Glad to hear you've decided to work out your lower back- Personally, my main exercise for that area is the deadlift- If you really want to improve your squat ability, I don't think there's a better exercise besides squats themselves.

I do deadlifts then I stretch them out with bridging.

I guess supermans can be a pretty powerful excersize as well. I always thought of it as an abdominal workout but it does put a nice bit of strain on your lower back. I do them on my cardio/ab/calisthetic days.
