well personally
about a 48 hour period for me sometimes more or less depending on the workout
i know sometimes i can bomb chest/back or arms and can not move
other times its not so bad
one way i recover faster is with stretching before during and after a workout
this keeps the lactic acid down which is connected to the soreness you feel after a workout
but other than that good supps and just rest period is the only way to recover
hope this helps

bklynboy, that is a great amount of time to rest because you no that you can avoid overtraining, and that's just wasted effort. On the oither hand you don't have to wait a whole week. A few days would be fine.

den9, o ne thing that helps muscles to recover is a good nights sleep. It has been clinically proven that muscle regernerates, grows, and recovers while you sleep because the body is in standby and basically your body says, "I've got free time and resources that aren't being used, let's make those muscles stronger." A solid night's sleep is key in bodybuilding. Many bodybuilders take pills to help them get a deeper sleep to encourage muscle to grow.

yeah but i see better results if i workout one body part once a week. and by that i mean that i see greater weight increase in all my lifts.
i tried doing a body part 3times, two times and now do it once.

Muscle takes longer than most people realise to fully recover from a workout- Once a week is a good amount of time to make sure that your muscles get done with all their growth and recovery. Sure, some people might feel like they can work the same muscle more often- But just because you're not sore anymore doesn't mean the muscle's done rebuilding, and when you interrupt the recovery process, you're messing with potential gains there, as well as risking overtraining in some cases.
As far as what you can do to recover faster- Well, nothing I'd recommend. Certain illegal substances can improve your recovery time, but they can also ruin your life. The bottom line is this- Eat like an animal, train like an animal and sleep like a baby. It's a sure road to success.
