how long do u guys usaully workout for?

I train for 45min - 1 1/2hr. It depends on how heavy the weight is getting.

Depends who you ask.. lol. I think the old school guys would work out for like 2 hours or so, but the scientific correct way now I guess is a hour or less. I believe that after an hour training with weights your body will begin to release cortisol (spelling?) which basically means your body is feeding upon itself and all your hard earned muscle as energy... something along those lines. I guess it all comes down to how much intesity can you really generate in long drawn out durations? A good moto is "get in, get out and grow"... because you are growing outside the gym when you are recovering, not when you are in there for three hours...

I have recently found for me that anything over a hour and 15 minutes is counterproductive. I start to really drag @#$ and just kind of go through the motions. I don't know if you already do this, but make sure you have a Post-Workout drink right after you are done with your weight training... followed a hour to a couple of hours later with your highest calorie solid food meal of the day. The post-workout drink should include protein, lots of carbs and some sugar... everything your body is craving. I hate those drinks they sell with like 1 gram carbs and call them post-workout drinks with no sugar. The cheap post-workout drink could probably be a large Gatorate with some whey protein... that should have everything you need after your done in the gym.

60 minutes or less. Even when I go heavy, I'm still done in less than an hour.

depending on how busy the gym is im usually there for 2 hours. about 1 hour per bodypart. the only time im there for less is on saturday and sunday. i get there at 6:30 and it closes at 8.

Yikes, 2 hours?!?!?!?!? That's too long. Not only from an exercise point of view but from an effective time management point of view. I would recommend that you take a real look at how you work out, how many sets, how many exercises, how much rest between sets, etc. Sure, you can say, 'but this works for me' which I guess is OK if you like being in the gym for that long and not having that extra hour to do something else in. Me, I enjoy my gym time but I also enjoy that 2nd hour to spend on something else.

What I have done , Read, and understood. was it dont matter how long you spend at the gym, its how many sets you do... and the # of sets depend on what your goals are.

AVERAGE PERSON 3 - 4 sets of 10 for 1 muscle isa ll you need. that may take you 45 minutes that may take hour and 1 1/2. depends on how much talking you do.

Heavy 3-5 sets of 3-8 for 1 muscle. take me about 45 minutes. i know some get done after 30 minutes.

Light looking to tone. 5-7 sets of 12-15 . Takes about an hour and 15 minutes to 2 hours. Your workout should be crituqued to you.

noone can tell you whats right and whats wrong.

but notice i did say "1 Muscle" if you do back and bis on the same day. double the time i said...

I workout about half an hour to an hour. I try to keep it under an hour because I like having time to hang out.

I'll agree its long but not to long. i get everything i need to do done during the day so i have no problem with this. and im going to say it. It works for me. I go heavy so i like to get plenty of rest in between sets. im relaxed when im there but i stay focused. i do 2 bodyparts per day. 4 exercises per body part. 4 sets per exercise. and i do this twice a week.

As far as effecting me negatively in a physical manner, i doubt it. i think i have my cortisol levels in check. i eat a full meal before and after i lift. i feel strong throughtout my entire workout. i have made pretty good gains in the last 17 months. no reason to change.
