Tuesday, April 17, 2007 7:57 PM
hey guys im going to be a junior football player in just a couple of months when camp begins and i really want to get faster. its pathetic but the fastest time i ran is a 5.5. yeah i know its sad, but i hit fine i do pretty well but the only thing i got a problem with is reacting fast to anything on the field, like when they are running the ball im the last person to rally to the ball. i play safety and wideout, so i need some help.

I play the same thing except Im gonna be a senior Run stadiums those work very well they'll help open your stride if you one step with one foot practice repetive sprints work on running techinques on your toes valvsa techinque i think they way you pump your arms when you run My man problem was opeing up my stride so when you run try opening your stride practice this for a couple weeks and its should open and your 40 time well be decreased a good bit

If you want to improve you reaction time, do drills where you change direction quickly on the sound of the whistle. You could also try one of those reaction balls that bounce all over the place when you drop them. You have to react to where it goes. Any type of sprinting would also help.

I just finshed my senior year as a starter at both those positions. To increase your speed theres a million different things you can do. Here a few that worked best for me: Sprints: 100% ranging from 5 yrd sprints to 80 yrd sprints, Snakes (Run the width of the field at every 10 yards until you complete the field. Ex. Start at the 10 yrd line and run all the way across, go to the 20 and sprint back, Sprint up the 30, Sprint back down the 40, ect.), Parachute or Weighted Sprints. Also get together with a QB and run some routes. Each route 5 times at full speed on both sides of the field.(So your used to running routes on both sides of the field). After you do a route 5 times on each side of the QB. Move up 5 yards and repeat the process with another route. Try and keep a fast pace through out to get a good workout (jog back after catching the ball). This drill improves your sprints, makes a better route runner, works on your hands, and devolps chemistry and timing between QB and WR. Agility: Ladder drills, Cone Drills (M drill, Box Drill, T drill, Star Drill, ect.) Weights: Weight train your quads and hamstrings. Those are mojor speed builders. (Squats!) All of drills, if done correctly and with max effort, will imporove your speed, agility, and reaction time. Also watch some film and pay close attention so you can anticipate whats coming to you. Thatll help your reactions. P.S. Whats your height and weight. Because depending on your body and certain skills maybe your fit to another position. And remember to weight train your whole body in addition to the conditioning.

Is this a 5.5 at 40yrds? Just wondering cause if you ran this and are playing saftey, you should playing D-line. I went to a small school were we only had 35 players on our JV and varsity teams, our d line ran upper 4's maybe a 5.3. As far as getting faster and reaction time goes. Do calf raises i boosted my 40 time like no other just doing extra calf raises. When you want to gain on your reaction time, the only advice i can offer is to watch film, study it and keep doing your homework. Reaction time will not and cannot be taught to someone. You have to get your reads down, watch for certain reactions players make when runnin a certain play. Depending on the defense your coach runs your going to have to watch a certain player. Your best bet is like i said watch film and take notes.
