As i've kept a lifting journal for some time, i figure i'd start spreadsheeting it and posting it for no good reason. Also, yesterday, i made the mistake of beginning that stupid widow maker power workout... ouch. note, do not copy directly from spreadsheet. it doesn't work well on here. incline db bench: 6x6 @ 65, 1x20 @45 Flat db bench: 6x6 @ 55, 1x20 @45 Shrugs: 6x6 @ 65, 1x20 @ 55 Laterals: 3x8 @ 25 triceps pressdowns: 4x10 @ 50 didn't quite make it to triceps extensions... i was hurtin'.

today i whipped out day 2 of the widow maker, and i will say, i wanted to cry, and vomit. However, i convinced myself that i was in desperate need of the electrolytes in the tears and... well... the nutritional value of my vomit held back. Leg Press 6x6 @ 450, 1x40 @ 200. Squat 6x6 @ 185, 1x30 @ 95 (skipped Hack Squats because i get knee pain from them.) Leg Curls 5x8 @ 80,80,80,90,100. I know now, to start with 100 next week. Leg Extensions 4x10 @ 100. I really need to get a new mp3 player. The gym was rockin' some terrible tunes today.

ORIGINAL: IBendBarbells damn man.. your dedicated!.. I cant mess with the widow maker... seriously lol that routine scares me! Good Job man! It hurts. a lot. I had to bail on the widowmaker early today as i felt the need to hurl after deadlifts. Sadly, nobody was able to offer me a crumpled up dixie cup and the polite phrase, "if you're gonna spew, spew into this..."

Today's workout as i mentioned earlier, i bailed on before i got to biceps. Reverse Grip BB row: 6x6 @ 115, 1x20 @ 65 (Next week these are going up, it wasn't much of a challenge this week, although my wrists really don't like this move.) Wide Grip Pulldowns: 6x6 @ 175, 1x20 @ 100 Deadlifts: 6x6 @ 215, 1x20 @ 135 - i skipped the last 10 out of fear of vomit. I woke up 201.5 this morning. -------------------------------- Dear Gravity, I hate you. today marked the 4th day of the widowmaker, and maybe my last. Its killing me, and i never have enough time to do all of the exercises. Today: Lunges 6x6 @ 90 lbs, 1x20 @ 40 lbs seated leg curls 6x6 @ 110 lbs Smith machine wide squats 6x6 @ 145, 1x20 @ 90. i had to split early and didn't get to SLDLs and Step ups. oh, and i loathe smith machines for squats, but some assholes were doing their bicep workout in the squat rack.

I'm not feeling so hot about working out today, or tomorrow... incredibly stressed out by my job hunt. Also, i need to stop all consumption of alcohol. Beer, i love you. IPA's, with your luscious malty complexity. And your enticing hop bitterness complimented by the floral aroma that just begs, "drink me," in a sultry tone. And your light, frothy, head, which finds itself so easily upon my facial hair... Stouts, well... you know how i like you... Just like i like my men, big, black, and bitter. Now is our time to part however, even though i have 4 fine ale's in my cupboard. I must limit my consumption of you to under 1 per 2 weeks. it is going to be tough going, but worth it, you'll see. I will enjoy you more with our infrequent visits, and i will enjoy my body more as a result. As this quest is not for anybody but myself. I will be happy with my body. veg, gzinkl, link... anybody... Help?

I love beer too. And wine and martinis. They are a weakness. Pep talk: well, I'm going to disappoint you. Unfortunately, short-term motivation is a poor thing to rely on, at least in my experience. Have short-term, reasonable goals (with a time clock on 'em) and a long-term goal. You can't rely on motivation to get you in the gym. We just have to go. (this talk is as much for me as for you!). How long have you been training? You might have bit off more than your body can chew with the Widowmaker. I personally fear it, and I've been training for two years. I mean, once in awhile you should be overwhelmed by training, but not always. You might need to back off a bit. One of the great things about our kind of training is we learn to listen to our bodies (and it can be a tempermental thing, to say the least). If you are feeling burned out and tired all the time, take either a brief break (make a date in your calendar for your return) and/or swith routines. Don't push to overtraining--you'll regret it in many ways on many fronts.

I've been weight training with regularity and intent for about a year. it was sporadic before that, and before that i was competing with MSU's Judo Club so weight training was akin to carrying around a 250lb guy on my shoulders.. I'm not attempting to chew fat off with the widowmaker, i'm really just attempting to push myself to the breaking point. After which, i'll take a week off, and ease back into it. This is as much a bodily reconstitution as anything. My goal for the next 3 weeks: (aside from survival) is to maintain weight. Hopefully by simultaneously gaining muscle and losing fat. Long(er) term: I'd like to get down under 185 (at the end of the day) by may. If i can assume i have a 20% bodyfat, a 15-20 lb drop would be about 10%. and leave me at about 10%. That would be wonderful.

Holy balls it is snowy today. I'm not driving anywhere, including the gym. It took me 25 minutes to get to my guitar lesson 3 miles away. i couldn't see more than 20 feet ahead of me.

huh... well i just realized, i have 2 day 4's posted... except one is actually day 5. and day 5 is day 6, and day 6 is day 7... which means yesterday was day 8. and the completion of 2 "weeks" of the widow maker. Lunges have tought me why my squats were always akward, and i'm questing to fix that now... Lunges: 6x6 @ 115 1x20 @ 65 lbs lying leg curls 6x6 @ 110x3, 120, 130 Wide squats: 6x6 @ 185 1x20 @ 105 DB SLDL: 6x6 @ 130 1x20 @ 90 EDIT: i need to seriously up the weights on the SLDL's... those were cake. i just wasn't sure how my body would handle them that late in the workout. My #1 choice of new jobs called my boss the other day since he is one of my references, and the boss said good things. Also, he said the brewery is excited to talk to me. I really hope they call soon, its giving me anxiety to have to wait unknowingly for this interview.

Hey, hang in there about the job! It's tough...especially right after school. But even if, god forbid, this one doesn't work out, you've enlargened your network. I mean, if you can withstand the widowmaker, then any business would be a fool NOT to hire you...

especially one that one of the hiring guidelines is, "physical capabilities." they asked my boss if i was physically capable, and my boss looks over out of his office at me and says, "Yeah, he should be able to handle anything you throw at him." This seriously is my dream job though, i can't emphasize how much i want this job.

This really has nothing at all to do with my training, but i just had an amazing weekend. Travelled up to Traverse City with some friends bands, (Fade Away Jumper, Thrashin' in the Streets, Fight It Out) and just had a ball. Got to see some people i haven't seen in a long time. And they noticed a definite increase in muscularity.
