did you read the article?

What can the athlete do to prevent osgood schlatters disease?
  • Rest. This injury needs rest if it is to heal. You must only do as much exercise as it will allow you. Weight bearing exercise will make it worse. Keep your sessions few and high quality rather than train every day.
  • Apply heat and use a heat retainer.
  • See a sports injury professional.

You might get more responses to this if you posted in the proper forum- Injury and rehabilitation would probably be best.

My brother had that growing up - back when he played basketball in Jr. High.  I remember they put him on crutches for a good long while.

Not to confuse things, but the advice in this article seems a tad backward.  OS is an inflammation -why would you apply heat?  I would think applying heat would make it worse??

Other than rest, I think anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen are the only things that would help.
Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

Cant be bothered getting into the science behind it but basically, the rule goes:- Cold therapy for acute injuries. Heat therapy for chronic injuries.
