Is the pain still persistant. I had a hernia about eight years ago. There's no mistaking it! That was the worst pain that I had ever had. I had an inguinal hernia and had a lump about the size of a golf ball at the site. If you think it could be a hernia, get it checked out ASAP. They are not fun to live with...

It's common for younger lifters to lift incorrectly, or use incredibly heavy weights-or an worse a comination of the two, while training. Although I'm not at all assuming that you do either, but both will contribute greatly to a hernia case. I had my first bout of hernia while I was 16 and powerlifting. The pain is indescribeable, and it surfaced from my groin. I was bedridden for two weeks, no surgery was necessary so the doctor said, and I lost 15 pounds of muscle in the process of rehabilitating. The second case, which was undeniably the worst, happened roughly a year ago. I had just finished the Wisconsin Natural Bodybuilding Championships in Madison, and I did comparatively well for a young competitor. Afterwards, as every bodybuilder, I gained a decent amount in the offseason thereafter. My peak weight was 225 with 9% bodyfat. I trained heavy on squats, deadlifts and benchpress for the following months gaining unbelievable strength and size, but one day while squatting I felt my groin pull while repping 425- which, then, was a decent amount for me. My lifting partner asked me why I had pulled out from my last rep, but I failed to give him a straight answer. Throughout the day I experienced the most excruciating pain imaginable and went directly to the emergency room when the pain was no longer bearable. This time it required surgery, and a greater length of time for rehabilitation. Being a "hard-gainer" I witnessed my body shrink from 225, 205, 195, 185, to finally 160 pounds. The purely psychological factor of seeing your entire physique melt away from day to day sent me into a deep depression. I no longer contacted my lifting partners, no longer visited the gym, and ceased weightlifting altogether. Only until 3 months ago was I physically able to begin training safely. A hernia, to me, can ruin a potentially enlightening career in bodybuilding. The key factors is to stay safe and feel for even the slightest pain.

I thought I had a hernia, I went to the hospital on Sunday and had it checked out. The doctor said she did not feel a hernia, she thinks I strained a muscle in my groin, I think it was either lunges or the ab workout that caused it... Mine is a burning feeling on the right side and it seems to be in my groin, hip, and somewhat in my inner thigh.... If its a strain it sure is taking its time to go away... How long should I expect a strained muscle to keep me at bay... Should I still be able to do Upper body, maybe on seated machines.???
