how much grape juice with creatine - Wednesday, December 14, 2005 3:17 PM
It's been said that grape juice helps with the insulin spike, so how much juice do u actually drink with creatine? Is creatine powder mixed with the grape juice? Should or shouldn't you mix creatine and protein post workout? what about pre workout?

thanks for the help

Do not pre-mix creatine as it breaks down in solution.
Mix it just before you drink it, within 10 minutes.

Taking the creatine with ~93 grams of simple carbohydrates has been shown to increase creatine levels up to 60% more than creatine alone.

2 to 5 grams of creatine per day...follow the direction on your product...they differ, some are pre-loaded with carbs.  More is not better.

Take your pre/post w/o protein and don't worry.

Note: Creatine supplements may be dangerous for people with existing kidney disease.

Mix it just before you drink it, within 10 minutes.

This is an over exageration. Creatine will breakdown but it will take a extreme amount of time (2-3 months) before the creatine even breaksdown by 20%. So mixing it a 8 hours or 10 minutes before doesnt make an astronomical difference in the level of creatine that can still be absorbed.

I have also read that ice cream contributes to the overweight couch potatoes waistline as well. There are more healthy transport ways to get the desired results, but ice cream is damn good.

Grape juice works well. Dextrose is what you are looking for to complement the creatine. Also look into getting some cinnamon extract as this will complement the creatine as well. As for how much juice, follow the directions of the creatine. If it states to take 8oz, then use 8oz of juice. Any where from 8-16oz is a good bet.

Yes you can do it pre and post workout and mixed in your shake if you like.

It is a good point, I am not certain to what extent it loses potency once in solution.  Are you certain of that...do you have a source for that.  I was reporting what I had learned from a lab who wrote:  "if you use a powder or mix, it is advisable to drink it as soon as possible (within 10 minutes) since the creatine can begin to breakdown once in liquid."

On the creatine with a carbohydrate...a note:
"Creatine's ability to enter muscle cells can be increased by combining it with glucose, fructose, or other simple carbohydrates" (1,2)

The cinnamon extract is interesting...can you tell/ref anything about that?

Another odd note:
"Caffeine may block the effects of creatine."

Exactly, dextrose, glucose, fructose, all simple carbs to transport the creatine to muscle.

The cinnamon extract or CinnulinPF is what helps insulin. here is one of many websites.

http://www.cinnulinpf.com/

CinnulinPF is in alot of the cell volumizers like Vault, No-Xplode, etc. But you can add it to your home made creatine mix as well

There's nothing like a statement that has the word "may" in it. The only way to make a judgement about this is to try it with caffeine for a while and then without too see if there "may" be a difference.

Hee hee, yea how about that!

Since the effects of taking creatine are noticeable, this is one of those times when that makes really good sense.

Thank you for the info and the link!

Is this true? Because I'm too skeptical to try it...
