a long time ago i bought this book called the complete book of mens health, ofcoarse it is published my mens health magazine. i found it a few days ago when i decided that i needed to get back into shape.

i went to a website and put in some information and it said that i should weigh 155, right now i weigh 215 and am 5' 8", so it told me that i was 60 pounds overweight. which is what motivated me to loose it. thats when i rumaged through all my old books and mags and found this book.

in a section it tells you to measure the circumfrence of your wrist, to tell what build you are. if your wrist measures less than 6 1/4" then you are a small build. if it measures 6 1/4 to 7" then you are a medium build. and if it measures over 7" then you are a large build. so a lot of these web sites are stating that everyone is a medium build person. because in the book, for my height a medium build person should weigh between 145 and 158. a large build person, which i am, should weigh between 155 and 175.

remember none of these books, mags or websites are exact on how much fat you have. but if you can get a real informative book like the one i found, then it gives a better example of where you should be at to be a healthy person. so since i do have a lot of muscle on me, and it turns out that i am a large build i came to the conclusion that i should weigh around 175 to 180. so i am only like 25 pounds overweight, not 60!

I don’t care about weight.  According to the sites I am morbidly obese.  At one time I was, I had a size 40" waist 265 LB  I am 5'10" tall

I now have a size 34 waist and I am 215 pounds.

I still have body fat to get rid of, but I only listen to my pants now, not the scale.

With lifting and gaining muscle, the weight is not an accurate way to judge health for body fat.

Fatboymuscle is right--those kinds of charts and stats are directed to the "average" population.  If you're putting on serious muscle, you're beyond the average population.  Your heath concerns when it comes to weight is really not weight.  It's body fat.  It's inches.  It's what you objectively see in the mirror.  If you're 215 at 10% bodyfat, then, wow, nothing to worry about.  But if you're 215 with 35% bodyfat, then we have a problem. . . .

I personally started at 305 and barely fitting into size 40 jeans (big and baggy variety), and XXL shirts, and am now down to 225 and a size 34 (straight leg) fitting loosely.  I've also trimmed down to a large shirt.

i guess all of you are right, because i am still the same weight, but i wear size 36 pants, and now i can stick my whole hand down them without unbuttoning. i have gotten back into weight lifting and already i can tell my muscle is growing, slowly, but its still growing. a lot of people say i look like i weigh anywhere from 175 to 185. and even people who lift weights and exercise religiously say that i look that weight. so i guess i should just go with inches, not weight.

My wrists are 6.1 inches, but I have a medium build, I just have very small wrists. What about me?

i dont know. but i am starting to agree with what fatboymuscle said though. basically all those charts are all bs. i mean my wrist is over 7", and i am a large build, and i build muscle extremely easily, and loose fat very slowly. so i am average when it comes to a large build person. but even though i am 220 pounds now, all my old clothes are getting baggy in the right places, and tight in the right places. and i started all this weighing 215. so go by inches and clothing, not weight and charts that dont see you in the flesh.

it's really hard to compare yourself in the mirror though. Take a picture of yourself, and then look, youll notice all the spots you didn't judge 5 seconds ago

yes i have already done that, and youre right, i was able to study the pictures and got to see things i didnt before. i am very muscular (i know a lot of fat people say that, but i really am) i just have quit a bit of fat covering my muscle. i was always a big boy and i have always worked out. just off and on, never straight through. but now i have gotten back in the game and want to stay in it, and already i have gained weight, but lost inches. and gained, but in the right places. i take no-xplode, a mult-vitamin designed to be used for bodies under stress, ginseng, and fish oil. and i drink protein shakes a couple hours before i workout and directly after. its worked for me so far.

I have an 8 inch wrist and am half way to being endomorphic. I know I need to lose fat, but it's not my main priority for at least 6-10 months. I still haven't trained properly, simply cannot get enough food/protein in.
