hormone manipulation - Monday, August 24, 2009 6:15 PM ( #1 )
hey dan what you think of this http://www.fitnessforon...le/hormones/part_one.htm

this link made me start thinking, when your a kid growing theres no way i personally was eating enough calories to technically grow according to energy in vs energy out....so how did i manage to make it to 6`2....hormones right?

growth hormone to be in particular so does this mean that hormones really are that powerful to where they can basically override caloric intake?

thanks in advance Dan you have always have good insight!

There are some fallacies in that, and the person writing lacks a deeper understanding of the mechanisms.  The mechanisms being the biggest factor.

It took more than hormones to make you grow.  When we are growing/born/young there is a communication between nearby cells telling them what and how to be and do and there is your unique gene map on how to make YOU.  And there are many other factors going on.

However, hormones are quite persistent and can control events, but they are not the sole most powerful control.  They work in concert, a single, though lead, instrument in a complex orchestra.

I don't think they really covered signaling pathways directly...you learn the "big view" of hormone role, stimulation, function, feedback mechanisms, some interactions.

Finally, in Cell Biology, we got to the more profound stuff.

But then there are allot of other players beyond hormones.  When we are born and cells start to differentiate, the way they determine what their role is and when to do what, the gene expression or inhibition...etc.  So, it is amazing and profound.

In America especially, we like to think that we can identify the one chemical that does something and then we like to think that if we take more, it will be better...right?  But it is not quite that way.  We find that when we take that approach (the way most of the mainstream does) then the complications are sometimes more profound than the desired effects.

Oh yes, with the Bioscience aspect, that was a must.

How else would I be able to understand conformational changes and all the complex interactions in a biological system at a deeper level!?
