You should be doing various types of speed training all the time. Safety is the fastest person on the D. Unless you are seriously undersized, you should be more concerned about clocking some blazing fast 40 and shuttle times than about getting bigger.

What's your height/weight/40/shuttle now?

Dang...

Yea you need to work on speed and speed and then when you think you're good some more speed. That time needs to get knocked down real quick. The safety on my woman's team runs a 5.2.

Your size isn't great but it isn't too bad. If there's a way for you to put on 10lbs while cutting your time then great. But speed needs to be your highest priority.

You should be in preseason now and that should be all you can take. Just focus on running every single sprint faster than the last one. It'll help more than you think. If you aren't running at least 3 times a week with your team then you need to go out and run on your own. Try to stick to your team's way of sprinting. If you typically do lots of 100s in practice do them on your own if you do more 40s stick to that.

You should definitely be working on your 20s, 40s, 80s, lateral movement and backpeddaling.

Receivers and dbacks run more than anyone else on the team in games, so get to moving. Work hard and good luck this season.Smile

Dang, thats pretty slow, for a light guy like yourself.....I was always the fastest kid in elementary and Middle School, and they were predominately black school, I played safety in Middle Scool, Would of played in HS, but got on the wrong track...I think speed has got alot to do with genetics, but you can definately improve yours, you should be able to get under 5, If you work hard at it....

Here is Your Supplement Checklist

A few days ago this kid posted his supplement stack pictures.   He spends $400+ a month on supplements!  I think I spend under $50 and that's if I'm being experimental.

I'll refrain from talking about brand names and such as I think we all have our opinions on those and many times price is a factor.  Let's just stick to the overall basics.

Read the Rest of the Supplement Checklist article here
