Well Calvs are just like any other muscle. Training them like that probably wont make them any bigger. I've (well my dad pointed it out to me) noticed that in naturally, fast runners and high jumpers their clavs are generally higher on their legs and smaller than other not so athletic people's. It could just be they way you were built. I mean they will grow, for sure, but you have to train them right, and they may never be as big as you want them. But being that I dont have the benifits you have (via the calvs thing) I would kill to. I know that if I cut fat I would dunk no problem, actually I believe that if I weighed around 200 I would dunk on people, but I cant currently.

Hey welcome to the forum paniro. you're looking pretty big for 180lbs, whats ur body fat? As far you calves go, I think you need to add more weight to your calf raises. Try sets of 15 reps with as much weight as you can handle. That should help em grow. P.S. Are you a 1-foot or 2-feet dunker? I would guess 1-foot

You want solid calves? Check out track/xc runners. But for you, since you're not one of them, add in some running and your calves will become more defined that you could ever imagine. For you, I'd say only 11-16 miles a week should do it.

Wow. 11-16 miles a week is nothing. Many of you do that on ellipticals and treadmills and you dont even know it. However, the incline from hills from outdoor training makes the difference as well as the endorphin rush. Running more make bigger calves. How? Run hills. Ever seen football, lacrosse, or soccer player calves? Monsterous...how? Compound lifts and running hills. To put 11 miles into broken down terms, thats this: 2.75 miles X4 on a treadmill(easy paced, should take about 25 minutes) 3.67 miles X3 on a treadmill(easy paced, should take about 33 minutes) 5.5 miles X2 on a treadmill(easy paced, should take about 50 minutes) Most people that do cardio dont look at all the numbers on the display panel. The only two they look at normally are the calories burned, and the time slowly clicking off or on. Look at you're mileage and you'll be surprised. -And if you really think that 11-16 miles is alot, either you have never played a contact/competitive sport in your life because most sport practices are 3-4 miles a session, and a game is the same. Practices usually are 5 days a week, meaning anywhere between 15-20 mile weeks and you don't even know it. So, honestly, quit your bitching cause most of the cardio work your doing is insignificant if you think 11-16 is too much.

what do u mean 11-16 miles is nothing. 11-16 miles is a hell of a lot of cardio if u are trying to bulk/add mass. and u never said anything about running hills in ur original post. all u said was running 11-16 miles would give u big calves. and i dont think that it would, yes running hils would help but 11-16 miles a week of running hills would be hell. simply put 11-16 miles a week is too much if someone is trying to bulk. u are just expending too many calories. there is no reason for that much cardio. that much cardio would be counter productive!!! ur just biased towards running. ur freaking sig is run to live, and live to run. if u really think that running 11-16 miles a week would help someone get bigger calves while trying to bulk then u need to rethink ur thought process. that would cause a lot of weight loss, and that is the opposite of what u are trying to do while bulking. and i have played competitive sports my entire life fyi. i have played with the best baseball teams in the state!! and one last thing. go drink some cranberry juice because u are obviously on ur period!!!!

Hey buddy, get off your high horse and sit down for a minute. When I say running I didn't specify what terrain, yes you are correct; However, I figured it would be implied that it was outdoor training which would include inclined and declined hills. Further more, like I said before, people who bulk do tend to do cardio as well unless extreme ectomorph for the fear of adding excess bodyfat. I know, I did it when I went through the bulking cycles, and what not. Basically, I have learned through experimentation and expierence, that resistance training doesn't burn as many calories as many think. For a guesstimate, a 30-45 minute session of intense lifting would burn about 350-450 calories. Maybe someone lifts for 3 days so that's around 1100 calorie burn for all those. Including the cardio, saying it's a 3 day routine as well; every mile is approx 100 calories so: 275 calories burned on those days. For BMR and TDEE purposes, I'll say that the BMR is 1800 and the activity level is moderate so it will equal out to be around 2200. Total lifting calorie expendature including bodily calorie expend: Approx: 7650 weekly.(350*3)+(2200*3) Total running calorie expendature including bodily calorie expend: Approx: 7425 weekly.(275*3)+(2200*3) Total calories burned for the week 15,075. -To burn that alone is about a 2,153.5 calorie diet daily. Most people when bulking, the calorie range is in the 3,500-4,500 range daily. With that calculated into the mix: Total calories burned for the week: 15,075 Total calorie intake for the week: 28,000(4,000 daily) Theoretically, there are still plenty of excess calories for added mass. Almost 3 pounds worth. Now, it's quite difficult if not extremely difficult to gain 3 pounds weekly, and it's probably not going to happen. But on a 4,000 daily intake, there's no problem with the running.
