for abs, you need to sufficiently lower BF% usually around 10%, for the "toned" look, ie definition the rep range i've usually seen quoted is 12-15. Hope this helps, Nick

for the "toned" look, ie definition the rep range i've usually seen quoted is 12-15. Believe it or not, there really is no rep range specific to toning- That "toned" look is simply a combination of muscle gain and low bodyfat percentage to show the muscle off. "Toned" is really a word used by the fitness industry to describe muscle that you can see easily, with some definition there- This is achieved through building the muscle, and losing the fat, nothing more. Sure, there are routines out there that promise the "toned" look that do work in that rep range, but it doesn't mean that range will make you gain muscle AND lose fat- It simply means it'll get you in shape, especially if you're someone who really needs it. Think about it- The word "toned" is mostly used in ads selling some sort of fitness equipment or video- Use this thing to get those toned abs, use my tapes to get a nice toned body, etc- It's simply a layman's term for the look people want. Rather than go into the details of explaining fat loss and muscle gain to the average person, they just throw "toned" out there, and people nod their heads and shell out money.
