quitting smoking is not a very pleasant experience.  Also quitting smoking can  cause your metabolism to slow down (nicotine is a stimulant like caffeine) and may lead to weight gain so make sure you account for that in your training.  I speak from experience because I recently quit smoking myself and now only smoke about 1 cig a month if even.  It's hard as hell but every time you want one, you gotta think about how crappy you're going to feel in the gym the next day, how your muscles will hurt more, and how it could hurt all the progress you have made.  That's what helped me a lot.  Part of my w/o routine is 40 min cardio run at 5.3 mph with almost no breaks.  If i smoke, it kills me, but I keep pushing.  I don't set myself up for an option to quit if i can't do it, but i know that i will do it either way it will just be easier for me if i don't smoke.  Anyways, it's all in your head.  I didn't use the patches or nothing.  Just smoke the last ciggarette, savor it, then cut up the rest of the ones in the box slowly.  And then walk away. If you have any questions other than that hit me up.
Motivation gets you started. Determination keeps you going. Anger fuels you and never lets you stop.

To be the best, you must train for the worst.

Thanks for the reply gaining weight isnt a massive issue as im a hard gainer and if it slows my matabolism down that may be an advantage ive managed to cut down to 5 cigs today from 20 so im gonna go for 3 tomorrow and then none .I find the hardest time is when im out with my m8s wish it was as easy as giving up drink .
Ive smoked for ten years now ,So im looking forward to a smoke free future

Thanks again m8

i'm actually  the opposite.  i like to drink, and i have high tolerance, and saying no to a shot is very hard.

Good luck quitting, its a difficult thing to do (I am almost 9 months smoke free!).

I however didn't quit cold turkey, had to have some help...tried the gum and it didn't work. Then I tried the patches, I at first didn't think it did, but a few weeks into it I started to realize that it helped more than I thought.

I did the whole 10 week program, probably could have quit at 6 or 8 weeks, but I wanted to make sure I was good...after all, everything I went through by then I didn't want to give up.

Avoid your triggers for a while the best you can, or if you do end up going back to smoking, start eliminating your triggers.  E.g. don't smoke while driving for a while, then, don't smoke right after a meal, then don't smoke anywhere in the house, etc, etc.  Then you'll be ready to quit.  I wouldn't change the world overnight, it makes it too difficult.

Also, i found it much easier to quit in the winter time...I made myself smoke outside and our north eastern Ohio winters are bitter sometimes, so it made it easy not wanting to go out.

Again, good luck with it!

Hey I'm giving up at the moment. And yeh I got patches, they don't help much though.

They help your bodies addiction but not your mental. However I do get a very small amount of motivation out of them. i.e. when I wake up and think about lighting up I just stick a patch on. The itching alone is enough to take my mind off ****s lol.

I'm on almost 4 weeks now. And I'm still getting pretty strong cravings everynow and then.

Best thing to do is try and train yourself to hate them. Which is pretty hard.

I've also found that hard cardio training really helps. Afterwards you really don't feel like one.

Also, if you ever have kids one day, you will seriously effect them. The sperm won't be nearly as good, and plus they are going to be brought up in a smokey disgusting environment. I don't know about you but I want the best for my kids, and I don't want them to come out de-formed either.

You could also setup a savings account with your bank. The money you spend on cigarettes in a week goes into it every week until the end of the year. When it comes to the end of the year see how much you have and put it towards something usefull like your mortgage.

Good luck man!
