help me please - Sunday, May 31, 2009 6:52 PM ( #1 )
I pretty much get hungry every night.  Like could eat a second large dinner hungry.

The span of hunger can be from anywhere from 8pm-midnight.  I find myself eating crap like sugary cereals and leftover from dinner.

First, is it ok to eat that late

Second, if it is what are some good foods i can eat then that wont affect my physiqe too much but will still subside the hunger

and im not really obese or overweight either.  5"7' 160lbs

1. No it's not good, but I do it too and I always get hungry like that also.

2. If you must eat late keep it to fat and protein. Almonds, meat, cottage cheese, whey protein, etc. Try not to eat carbs.

Agreed with Perry - avoid carbs before bed.

A protein shake or cottage cheese should work fine late at night.

These are the things that kill hunger and make dieting easy.

fibrous veggies - celery and broccoli are my favs.  If youre feelin hungry just eat some of it and it will help

keto diets - ketones blunt hunger.

caffeine/ephedrine/yohimbe - you wont feel like eating at all

These things keep me from ever overeating.

Carbs are a total no-no late night. When I get the urge to eat something, I'll drink a large glass of water. If that doesn't help....almonds, half a cup of low sugar cereal (plain cherrios).

lol what?  Cheerios are mostly carbs.  Eat something high in protein and fat late at night.

It always bothered me when people mention almonds or nuts as a "low carb" food. Its not. One serving has 6 frickin grams of carbs and most people can easily eat two or three servings in a sitting without knowing it, so they can be eating up to 12-18 grams of carbs. My main hunger killers are brocolli, spinach, and I know this is sorta bad, but CHEESE. Cheese amazes me on so many levels.

Don't forget to subtract the fiber.  1oz of almonds contains 3g net carbs, which is pretty low going up against 6g protein and 14g fat.  But I agree, they're easy to lose track of if you don't pay any attention to what you eat.
