Made some granola last night to eat for breakfast. Came out nice - although, alot less sweet than store-bought granola.
3 cups oatmeal (the real stuff - non-instant)
6 TBS Flax seed
3/4 cup chopped almonds
1/2-3/4 cup wheat germ, bran, or some such thing
coconut, or anything else you feel like adding (protein powder, other grains)
3 TBS butter (or other oil, as you see fit)
3/4 cup sweeteners - some combination of honey, brown sugar & agave nectar (i used about 1/4 cup of each). you could use splenda too.
Mix the dry ingredients all together in a baking pan
melt the butter in a small bowl in the nuker, dissolve in the sweeteners.
pour the butter mixture over the dry ingredients, stir together with your hands.
bake in the oven at 300F, stirring every 10 minutes, for 30 minutes, or more, until nicely toasted.
remove from oven, stir in dried fruits - raisins, cherries, cranberries, blueberries, whatever.
let cool, store in airtight container for up to a couple of weeks.
it has sugar, but I think alot less than store-bought cereal.
try out different combos of grains, nuts, fruits, oil, sweeteners...
post your thoughts!
