eat foods that contain high amounts of protein. Chicken breast, egg/egg whites. you can even get cheap body fortress protein from walmart for like 13$ for 2 lbs. i would invest in that if you dont have much money. take a quick look at the grocery list stickied at the top of this forum. it will give you an idea.

first you only need to use protein if you cannot get enough "real food" into your diet. although it is very beneficial to use whey protein after your workout to ehlp the muscles. just get some whole foods like i said. Whats your current protein intake looking like per day? whats your weight and your diet like?

I'm pretty sure it is going to be more expensive to eat real food instead of taking protein shakes. If I replaced each protein shake with chick breast/fish something like that I'm sure it would cost me more. There are about 27 servings in a 2lb tub of protein which lets say costs 20 bucks on average. Where can you get 27 chicken breasts for 20 bucks??

well although protein powders have their benefits and are cheaper compared to a lot of whole foods, real food if possible to afford would be better.

Well, there isn't any cheap whey down there in Australia? You should look for generic ones.

My point is that if he cannot afford whey then he definately cannot afford to make up that amount of protein with real food. Yes, food > supplements.

Eat tons of tuna. I like to make tuna salad because plain tuna is a little nasty.

I say don't stress. Follow what Bulking said, 'Breakfast, eat like a king. Lunch, eat like a queen. Dinner, eat like a peasant.' I'm starting to cut up pretty well since I stopped being so anal about my diet. haha With the protein, yeah... If you're having 6 meals, have egg whites in 2 of them, tuna in 2 of them, steak/chicken breast in 1 of them and milk or a protein shake or something in another. That way you enjoy the expensive one and don't have too much of the cheaper ones so they won't lose their taste. Also, remember when calorie counting and putting your activity levels, bmr and all that crap into it - don't count calories for fat. Don't consume energy to accommodate bodyfat. I've noticed that not many people have brought that up on here and I've noticed since experimenting with it, I've gotten way further in terms of progress... And saving money.
