I bought a single hand cable thing, for 1 arm cable curls ect... and it cost 12 bucks! what the heck. and i was thinking about getting something to put on the bar for squats so it doesn't hurt your neck but it was like 50$! ridiculous....

now im angry

The price for the single arm cable attatchment, I can understand. 50 bucks for something to wrap around your barbell? I use an old fleece sweater and some freakin duct tape, works great.

You mean the Manta Ray Squat

I like it.. but I don't know that I would spend $40 for it. Towel, duct tape or just get the cool battle scars and go without any kind of padding at all.

I use a Gofit barbell pad. I think it was 12$ at my local sporting goods store. More expensive than a towel and duct tape, but it's not too bad, and it does make squats a bit more comfortable.

We have something very similar to the GoFit barbell pad at our gym.. it's my second choice if the Manta Ray isn't available. It works well too..

But I've seen one guy who just uses his gym towel wrapped around the arm when he does squats. Likes it the best. Manta Ray thing feels odd to him. Pad feels too bulky. Towel is just right.

There's many options. Including just doing the bar without a bad.. I tried that, hated it.

Anyway, you can find suitable alternatives for way less then $50

I have to use some sort of pad when doing squats- With heavy weight on the bar, it digs into my shoulders and traps too much, I was ending sets because of the pain- I swore I was going to pinch a nerve or something.

Maybe.. the guy that just uses the bar claimed that anything he used before WAS pinching a nerve to the point he needed a massage all the time... Once he just used the bar and put it real low like a powerlifter (rear delts supporting) it went away. So that can be very true for some. Depending on where the nerves are in your body.
