I am literally a 98# weakling, and right now I'm trying to gain about 15#. So far all the weight-gaining advice I can find is for larger folks, and I see they're eating 3000+ calories. My main question... what is a safe rate for someone as small as me to gain? Is there some formula? How about recommended caloric intake? Right now I get 2400 cals on a good day, 1600 on a bad day (too much fat, not enough protein, I know). I'm 5'6" and genetically skinny. I weighed about 110-115 before the (5) kids, but I think they have sucked the life out of me. Thanks for any info. Elizabeth

You seem to have the exact same metabolism as mine, though you weigh less because you're shorter, I havent gained weight (in fact i think ive lost some since ive started eating even MORE like a pig than before when i was eating semi pig ) so i can't really help you with how to gain weight, but what usually works for me sometimes (and it requires a damn lot of it) is high carb intake, i usually use rice, pasta and/or oats. I eat up to 300grams+ of the stuff and just sit back and let the metabolism fight the battle....usually it wins but if you keep eating like this constantly for some time(week or more) your metabolism starts losing and gaining weight...but its a slow process, and you have to be LAZY so as to not burn any of its energy into active stuff. This is how MY body works, and your body seems very similar to mine in way of metabolism (though ive never gone as low as 1600 calories, i try to NEVER drop below 2500 and 99% succeed) Just (unless you start throwing up from the vast amounts of food ) eat LOADS and LOADS, that's all the advice i can give. If your genetics make you have a fast metabolism conventional "eat protein this" and 'do exercise that" wont really work-or a lot less effective than on usual people anyway. I have tried so many weight gaining "programs"/"ideas" without success and usually have lost a few lbs sometimes by the time ive finished with it, so i know how annoying it is to not be able to gian weight.

That's not what I wanted to hear; I was hoping there was some magical fat pill or something. I've been doing cardio for 30 minutes, 3x/week, so I guess I'll be cutting back on that. It's really depressing since I used to be able to run 12+ miles a day (without losing weight, go figure). Good luck with your training. You sound a lot like my brothers. One was 5'7" and tried for 10 years before getting up to 150. My other brother was 5'11" and weighed 135, but he was freakishly strong. Elizabeth

Carbs are good to gain weight and stop running, running is how you slim down

I have heard that milk has unusual properties that puts your body in the state to grow. Try drinking a glass of full fat milk with every meal. If it works it works, if not no harm is done. The calories and protein would be good too for weight gain even if it didn't work, so it would be a good idea anyway.

I've heard that weight gainers DO work, the only problem is... you will most likely LOSE all the weight you've gained as soon as you stop using the supplement. Your best bet is to gain weight from a balanced diet which is easier to adjust to a lifetsyle as opposed to keep buying weight gainers the rest of your life.

I drank 3 cups of whole milk before going to bed last night. Then I was up every hour to use the bathroom.
