Ironman69 you just managed to quote and reply to a post that is almost 2 years old! So what? I am fully aware of that fact. The information is incorrect. Why would I want to let that go by without a comment when I know it is false? Are you in the habit of just ignoring some of the erroneous information that is put out there? Me, I prefer to be part of the solution, not a contributor to the problem. Laugh if you'd like, but I felt that comment needed to be corrected.

I think the best training split for most beginners is an upper / lower split. Do something like this: Upper 1: Bench variation secondary pressing movement pullups rows arms Lower 1: Squat secondary leg movement heavy abs calves Upper 2: Overhead variation secondary pressing movement pullups rows arms Lower 2: Deadlift secondary leg movement heavy abs calves For every exercise, work up to 1 heavy set of 4-6 reps, and then do a down set of 10-12. Increase weight or reps with every session.

wow, a ton of good info there guys, took quite a while to read but glad I did. One issue that wasn't really touched on (only briefly by MVP) was where "middle-ground" splits lay in the effectivness on achieveing your goals. I mean splits like " push/pull/legs, push/pull, chest, tri, shoulders/ back, bi's, legs, etc" It's kinda "middle ground" splits I've followed in the past few years (beginning with bodypart splits when I was younger due to being corrupted my musclemags!!) Have just started the HST program with a FBR every other day, can't wait to get stuck in, seems a bit strange to leave so much left in the tank when u leave the gym in the earlier stages!

MuscleMachine14 IMO, full-body splits are geared towards the idiots who lift to flex at the beach and blow kisses to themselves in the mirrors, not for "bodybuilders," or whatever people want to call themselves. Tell that to Sergio Oliva, Mike Mentzer and Ray Mentzer. They all used full-body splits at major points in the bodybuilding careers and they did quite well. I can also tell you that after lifting for several years and using various types of splits, I didn't get really good results until I switched to a 3 day a week, full-body, High Intensity Training split. I was able to push myself like mad and made some great gains. IMO, making a blanket statement like you did is always going to come back and haunt you later.

Dan I'm glad you found this thread useful. As far as full body VS. splits go, they are what you make them. You can make terrible full body routines and terrible splits, you can make a good full body routine and a good split, usually our personal requirements are a bit different but both can be effective ways to train provided specific principals. Most of my mass was with push / pull / legs. I didn't do the MWF version though, I did the 3 days on / 1 day off. I started the week with legs, then went to push, then went to pull and usually changed the accessory movements each session.

Exactly! There's one guy on here (I believe it's veggeep) that does push/pull/legs but 7 days per week. I could be mistaken though, I did 3 days on / 1 day off. I agree with the guys that were saying waiting 7 days to train a movement is unnecessary. When I train, I feel there's no reason to wait another 7 days to train a specific movement. So when I do splits, I normally make sure they are hitting muscle groups more than once per week directly. Needless to say, I don't let days of the week dictate the days I train. If I feel like a training session, I go to the gym and do what I feel is necessary, I try to get in each movement at least once per week and sometimes three times per week. Either way, if I do push / pull / legs, I don't wait until the following Monday to repeat a session. Not enough frequency for me really.

Some people who follow HST realise u don't have to do FBR's every other day. Some do upper/lower and do it 6 x week, as long as each bodypart is hit every 48 hrs or so it's fine.

split always work best for me. The area is not worked too much and it is worked enough to gain muscle.

perfect_pickle hi im very new to body building. im 22, 6'3", and about 200lbs. not great bfp either. i would like to bulk up and cut down as well... more interested in bulking. i would like to know what program would work best for me as i am a noob. full body 3-4 days a week of a 4-5 day split??? any help would be great! I think a split routine is always better. It's hard to train your full body in each workout. There are several examples of how to split your routine listed here: http://build-muscle-fas...ining-split-routine.html
