Free weights pwn all cables!

it depends on the exercise, for example cable crossover flies IMO are more effective that dumbbell flies as they have resistance throughout the entire movement.

you will hear loads of people saying cables are crap etc etc,but they have there place and providing you get the "mind muscle connection" going on then they are useful, mixing it up is never a bad thing imo.
if you're not continually learning then you're listening to the wrong people!!

There are exercises where cables are a suitable alternative. You don't have to use freeweights for your entire workout but they should make up most of it IMO.

Free weights should make up most of your exercises. Cables are good for certain things though. For example cable flyes are good

because there is resistance all the way through the movement, same thing with cable curls. Like everyone else said cables have

their place, but the majority of your workout should be freeweights. Machines, however, suck. They take out the stabilizer muscles

which is why freeweights are better.
