I would say i have a similar frame proportion to eric bana (http://www.danong.com/data/images/Eric%20Bana_1.jpg http://www.dublinks.com/assets/41/97A41875-5684-4A93-9B3F3DD18AF67B24_big_image/image_Hulkbig.jpg http://www.spybroken.com/bana/art/manip021.jpg http://www.spybroken.com/bana/art/manip027.jpg) the only difference is, is the amount of muscle i have, and the amount he has. I have literally tried everything now, ive cut my working out times to three times a week, (with very little cardio, now i only walk when i have to get somewhere) - ive been drinking plenty of chocolate milk, milk, water, cereal, lots of meat of late (pork, chicken, beef) and have only noticed a 2-3lbs gain in weight, i find if i stop eating as much for even a second, i drop back down 2-3lbs and its really frustrating by morning i will be at the same weight as i was when i started ... here is a picture of me attached, there is some slight improvement in the upper body, but my arms are still as skinny as the day i started (even though i max them out and increase the weight by about 20lbs since the beginning) ... ive lost both weight in my face (because of the hot weather we've been having here) which is making me look freakishly like skeletor from heman (remember than cool dude? - well hes not so cool when u look like him). im starting to worry that ill never be able to gain enough weight to get the look i want (and i want to have a similar chest size to eric bana) can anyone else offer me more advice :(

First - How old are you? Second - I don't see any comparison to Eric in your picture. I would say you are bulking the wrong way. You're stomach is chubby and you aren't going to get LBM from dirnking chocolate milk and no cardio. For arms try BCAA's work out 5 times a week, and work out CORRECTLY

i dropped all cardio based on this advice: http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/m_69995/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm#75102 it sounds liek ur having atrouble gaining weight, if i were u i would drop most of the cardio and keep lifting, maybe try bulking which it sounds like ur trying to do hit the nutrition section.. and read read read and maybe post there some questions on food many people here are very well informed http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/Nutrition/forumid_17/tt.htm I was also told that eating lots of healthy food like pasta, rice, meat, milk, cereal, would help me to gain weight. believe it or not, there is no chub on that stomach, - i cant even pinch it, - ive never had much defining muslce on my stomach (not even when i used to swim as a child) so im assuming thats more to do with the way my skin is stretched over my muscles rather than around them. im 18, i didnt mean my muscles look anything like eric bana's, i purely meant the bone structure, he seems quite lean in his forearms and narrow in his build, if he didnt work out and gain muscle, im fairly sure his structure would look like mine.

Dont even do cardio. Creatine and whey protien, that's all I have to say. Calories. Alot. Eat whenever you get hungry. Eat after a workout. 4-6 reps of 4 sets is what I like. I was a scrawny kid too a while ago. Put on 30 pounds in 4 months doing only these three things.

When you're a scrawny 15 year old, you don't have to worry about having a healthy heart so much. I'm sure hes active. Hes trying to gain weight, and the cardio will only make it harder for him. I agree it will keep you healthy and in shape, but I just say no in his case for right now. I was a scrawny kid, and I still rarely do cardio, but I walk probably three miles a day. As a warmup it's good, but I wouldn't focus on it when your trying to put pounds on.

Eh.... I would agree with bigmike on this question at 5'11 and 150lbs im a very lean thin person, however me and 3 friends (including the big one i go to gym with) went to quasar (laser version of paintballing), and after 30 minutes i was having quite a few breathing problems true i do already have some breathing problems and there was smoke in there which didn't help but i was knackered afterwards and breathing really heavily etc My big friend walked out breathing normally and looked at me and said "you've got no stamina mate" lol I used to be wicked fast at running and won most races aged 9-12 after 13 we didnt do much running in P.E and i didnt run much myself either by then, and ive got a LOT slower, even though my legs have grown a lot which should make me faster, im thin but im slow, and i cant run for very long. Cardio is very good, but if you have a fast metabolism and wish to bulk, it isnt easy doing both, in fact its pretty pointless

Well heres another photo, this is from when i wake straight up (this was the morning after the photo above) ... as you can see, the sides of my stomach are wasting away, and my chest muscle is near to disappeared! (and this is only in 1 night without visiting the lavatory) ... im starting to think i have a high motabolism that not even these weight gain products can compete with! ... im not even sure what to ask now, because ive literally tried everything, from eating with cardio, eating without cardio, not eating and doing cardio, doing cardio weights and eating, ive tried just about every combination :( is this just a genetic thing where i cant put on any weight? maybe i should make myself a research subject to scientists and try and cure obesity. :( I forgot to mention im 6ft 4 tall, - maybe this has something to do with why i look so dam scrawny as well... could anyone offer any advice on which excercises focus primarily on chest and in particular the sides of my stomach? really, doing 15-30 min. of cardio is not gonna burn 1,000 cal. people make such a big deal about the issue. you should do cardio as part of your workout, it will not keep you from making gains. noodle this... doing cardio forces your body to feed large muscle groups for long periods. after a while your body will produce more blood cells to carry more oxygen. so now that you have more blood cells on days that you lift you will have more O2 going to your muscles more waste being taken out, and more nuitrients going in...thus decreasing recovery times...making faster gains..

Hey Andrew, if there is no fat on that stomach like you said, I would start doing ab exercises. I can see from your latter picture how you may just have no muscle on there. I weigh about 156 (Sadly lost more this summer than I planned) and am 5'10. I still do cardio every other day. 20 minutes of running at 5 in the morning is one of the best feelings I've had in a long time. And it doesn't cut into my muscle, actually if scientifically possible (I don't think it is), last year when I was working out, I didn't see as big of gains as I did until I started doing cardio. But maybe it's becuase no cardio + whey + creatine + food only got me FAT. Cardio for 20 minutes at medium intensity WILL NOT make you lose muscle if you are working out heavily 3-5x a week for atleast 45 minutes on each bodypart.

hey, ok i again took your advice on board, and tried to do something a little different this week, i went on holiday this week and i went swimming daily for approximately 45 minutes on average each day (i didnt do weights all week because i didnt have access to any), Although ive dropped the puppy fat (or the fat belly it was referred to), i still dont think im gaining any defining muscle, i realise that this has to be a gradual thing where the muscles rebuild, but after a week i expected to see more of an improvement in muscle definition (however i have seen a big improvement in the density of the muscle on my stomach and chest just no real visible effect) could anyone offer any further advice ... my diet of food last week consisted of : breakfast: bacon, fried egg, beans, 2 pieces of toast, 2 glasses of orange juice, dinner (2 plates of): mixed salad, chips, a selection of meat (usually 2 chicken breast, or 2 pork chops), mixed vegetables. This is usually double what i eat at home! (it seems to be having some effect i must admit) ... im planning to continue that diet weekly (and go swimming at least twice a week), are there any other good tasting food i can buy (like protein bars) which i can chomp on? Ive checked the diet threads, but whenever i try something (whey for instance) it hasnt really had much affect (and it tastes pretty nasty), however protein bars have helped. Thanks so much for your time Thumbnail Image
