you've got a good linemens body. could use 20 or so more lbs to play in college but you've got plenty of time and you'll want most of that to be in muscle, your speed is decent but as you get heavier you might start to slow down, work on those legs, calves and hams. Some people will tell you that large calves will slow you down but I really dont believe it. If your like me and you've played football for a really long time and you've played line for just as long then your calves are probably fairly built anyway. Work on your hammies and keep going up on those squats. 450's a great number on squat. especially if you got it 5 times. and 340 is great if your getting that. you just turned 17 so I'm assuming your a Junior, those are great #'s for a junior, keep it up and if your thinking about playing in college start putting a tape together ASAP, get all your max lifts, highlights from games, ect. I think you've got the size and strength to play at the very least D2 IDK how good you are on the field, a wise man once said "when they put the bech press on the 50 yard line I'll start worring about it" so tallent is very important but if you keep adding strength, I'd bet a D1 coach somewhere will take a chance on you developing. IDK what your team's like so I cant say how many looks you'll get just from that but mine sucked and if you wanted to play anywhere you had to have a good tape and great #'s. I think you could play center or guard at the next level based on your size and strength alone. just my $0.02.

To answer mtxe71, who started this thread, you look like your doing well, as a jr, in highschool i wish i had been pushed into weights more. One thing to note though, as a lineman squats, and incline bench are your main friends. When your in stance the first motion you have is at that angle when contacting the lineman across from you, so keep strong in these two areas. eventually increase on the squats to move over to tackle at the nex level. once you get to these levels start working on reps, reps, reps. you'll only get so strong, so muscle endurance is of great importance. once you reach the goals, start making goals of 450 10 x 3-4 sets. It will take awhile to get there, but trust me at the next level you will appreciate having done so.

now to meadepride who added into the thread, Not sure of the position you play, but trust me your not bad off, at you weight and age i was maxing 300 bench, and 400 squats. Having a 6'7" father to push me along the way and my cousin Keena Turner( Dallas, SF) giving me pointer helped. for speed, hit the stadium stairs (sprints), run 10, 40, and 100 yard sprint. Also on your weight sets, go slow through th motions to activate all the muscles possible. trade weight and sprint days and make sure you rest.

R u using any supplements? Whey protein is a great supplement to take for the weight room. Creatine works really well too. Lots of people at my school use it when trying to gain speed and strength.

hey man whats goin on.. well i can help u out a lott with your football maxes and what not.. IM a college football player and im changing between positions right now soon to be changing schools (hopefully) i Play Division 3 football for Kean university and right now im 5'10.5 and 235 lbs.. I will be 19 May 31...ive never juiced.. but ive taken a lotof supps..
my bench is at 405 fora max but my 225is at 20 reps consistantly...my squats at 450 but was 500..andmy deadlifts at 480lbs right now.. clean is 250 also.. my 40 is at a sad 4.86..butneed sto be a 4.70 soon lol...

you need ot be lifting hard as Balls..at 260 and change if you want to play colelge at all on anylevel your speed should get to a 5.0 at least and your squat need sot go WAY higher..and ur bench should break 350 to be impressive at all..ur 225 should be up there as well.. even on the smallest level of football ive got D linemen whos 6ft3 280..and runs a 5.1 and can squat like 600 and change..for reps.. lol

if you want my lifting or nutrition stuff ive been on this site for 18months since i was 212lbs andnow im 235..MANY of these guys have helped me BIG TIME..ChrisShepard and Man mirage primarily for strength.. Ohh and Ibendbarbells.. they know there stuff..and now i knwo mine.. i have a VISCIOUS football routine if u r ready for it?..it got me to shine at a highshcool combine entering college and noticed by a few D1 schools (unfortuantly i had a 2.4 out of highshcool) and was a ideiot and D**Ked off a lott .. (hopefully goin to Temple though and playing fullback)...check my threads on Nutrition andmy Critique my physique.. u will see me from a junior goin into senior yuear at 212.. all the way to LAST week gettin ripped after bulking bigg time..

Weird...you look EXACTLY like my cousin shannon. I guess everybody has a twin...Smile

If I were you looking to play college, I would pass on the weight gain for now and focus the majority of my attention on speed. Increasing your strength to the goals you have isn't going to be crucial for games or scouting, but speed is a make or break element.

There are TONS of OL/DL guys out there putting up 225 20+ times. There are much much less running 5.1s or 5 flats.

A college coach is much more likely to sign a fast guy and put him on a diet/lifting program to get him to the weight the team needs than to sign a strong guy and hope they can make him fast.

ripped chick is completley correct..like i said.. pick one.. but dont stop lifting while ur running by anymeans..like dont stop completley lol..as far as college coaches are concerned..the local news paper called me the "Bull" and the "bowling ball" in highschool.. i was 215-220 at 5ft 10 and i ran a 4.9..not superfast but i ran kids over..asafullback i dominated highschool football and had enough power to run right through certain lineman...(not all of them)..poweris just as important.. id say its 60/40.. speed then strength..cuz look at it this way..OL..ur so fast off the snap but cant hold ur block cuz the dude is OVERPOWERIGN U.. what is ur speed for?..and if ur on DL.. and ur technique is AMAZING..but u cant shed a block? whats ur speed for?

I'd tell you, although your def. my elder here man (by barely a year).. what the majority of people are saying, is that, you need to increase your size, increase speed, and maybe maintain strength? I mean, if its possible to increase speed and strength AND size, then by all means go ahead, but it'll be extremely hard to up all three of those, at least all at the same time. Just yeah, keep up lifting, and maybe google a lineman's sprint workout.. there on this beautiful thing called the "world wide web", and I'm sure plenty of 'em. Good luck.
