folks help i cant seem to get my middle chest to grow !!:( - Saturday, June 28, 2008 9:00 AM ( #1 )
alright i just started this blast ur bench press routine and i could say iv seen amazing results in the chest size and stregth in the bench press workout.
In fact i just noticed something wierd is that my chest never grows in the upper middle area for some reason while it keeps growing in the sorrounding areas and idk why it irritates me when i look at my chest and it looks deformed in the mid side as if there is a hole.
so id really appreciate it if someone can clarify to me what could be the mistake and what do i to sort it out,
thnx in advance

use the cable crossover and do incline flies and hold the peak contraction when your hands are close together

Thanx david 1991 i'll try the cable crossovers i havent given this one workout a shot.
any other suggestions like an intense workout that will make my mid chest area very sore cuz i just noticed that whenever im done from my chest workouts that area always feels slack as if i havent worked it out and the rest of the stress is concentrated on the surrounding area which is the part thats growing up so i guess im lacking a workout for the mid chest .

I am sorry to disappoint you, but pectoralis major is one muscle and you can't shape it. Now, go post in the relevant section.

Wouldnt that mean that all chest movements work the chest in the same way?

oh god.. not this whole discussion again.

i agree with coldfire's response, but redjeeps response really puts that statement in it's own corner for now.

when doing a chest exercise, yes, the chest is being worked.   My opinion is that different chest exercises work different areas somewhat MORE than others.

for instance, dips can be considered a chest exercise... but it really hits the majority of the lower pec area...(triceps are obviously doing alot of work here, but this is an example for chest)

where-as incline BB benchpress is also a chest exercise, and concentrates most of the work done to the upper pec area/deltoids.   (yes, the triceps are obviously assisting in both motions)

while i'm not saying that the rest of the pectoralis isn't being utilized, you have to agree that the work distribution can be swayed  in a certain direction depending on the chest exercise you pick

x2. like u said the higher u go the more the delts are worked too, but like tri's they're worked in any pressing motion.

about emphasizing the different parts of the chest it's basically upper and lower because of the way the fibers run. so yes u can emphasize upper more than lower with an incline, but u cant really emphasize inner more than outer

Well, decline and regular bench are pretty much the same, with decline being a shorter range of motion. Incline works your shoulders more. I am not sure it recruits more of the "upper portion" and I don't want it to turn into an endless debate now.

Anyway you look at it, you can't focus on different parts of the chest horizontally (inner/outer chest and all that crap).

Another thing to consider is.. Flat bench works the entire Pec.. both heads.... As CF said.. incline will slightly work the delts and the upper head of the pec more than flat will but it might be just the way your genetic makeup is.. if that's the case.. you'll just have to work with what you have.. as there is no way to manipulate which area of a muscles grows.. When it's worked.. it grows how it was genetically dis positioned too..
There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing

I wasn't attacking you I just did not understand the statement. Between your response and Smoundzou's response I understand what you were saying, and it makes perfect sense.
Two more questions:
-Based on this knowledge what chest exercises would you stick with as your core for chest training? Obviously bench press, but incline/decline? Flies and dips?(in terms of BBing)
-What exercises would you stick to if you were training for powerlifting (chest wise), obviously bench again but anything else?

Thanks for your help and clairification.

I didn't think you were attacking me. I just explained myself.

Anyway, I would choose dumbell and barbell bench press, overhead press and dips. Incline is ok too, but not necessary. For powerlifting you might add different type of lockouts and rack work.

We need mods to move non-powerlifting/strength threads to the correct forum.

Why don't they do this?  All other forums do this.
