well you know i been working out for three weeks and i already doubled and almost tripled the wieghts i am doing .. i bought me a gymn set and i got a bench .. i drink one to two energy drinks a day and those make feel absolutely the best .. i stop drinking soda and i only drink those, milk, and xtreme rapid wieght gain milk shakes with whole milk .. i feel absolutely great and i can feel my muscles are hurting and growing .. i just want to gain more faster.. i put on maximum wieghts and can just get 5 or 6 reps done and i do three to five sets every other day .. except today i am upset so i am doing more :(

hey ss396 i am 140 and 5'11 and i wanna be about 170 to 180 (if this is realistic) by this summer too .. i have not wieghed myself since i started (i will try to wiegh myself asap) but i can feel my muscles are growing and i am in pain everyday .. i try stretch alot . the first week i only did a couple light wieght sets with no milkshakes, week two i started really working out the bench press, curls, situps and pushups every other day and squats on inbetween days, and started drinking two shakes a day .. week 3 i got my new gymn set i got great deal $200.00 on craigslist and now i do three sets of butterflies, 3 sets of chest press, 3 sets of pull downs, 3 to 5 benchpress sets, 3 to 5 curl sets every other day and i totally max the weight so i am struggling to push the last ones .. on the off days i do squats and legs on the gymn set but i havnt done alot legs yet .. i still drink one to two milk shakes a day .. i am changing up though now (week 4) i am going to drink one milkshake in the morning on the way to work, then drink energy drink at work (i dont drink coffee or soda anymore), and then one energy drink and one milkshake in the evening  with my workouts .. i been drinking energy drinks for over a year now and they are absolutely the best thing i ever did because i have increased energy and increased mental focus .. i know this for a fact my grades at school went up 5% on exams due just to concentration and focus when i started drinking them .. i am adding mass situps and pushups to my workouts starting this week before i goto bed at night ..

like i said my strength has doubled and tripled i have added wieghts to my benchpress second time just tonight because i already maxxed out over 10 reps so i added another set because i like to struggle to get 5 or 6 reps .. i do not know if i am growing bigger .. i hope so ..

hey if you serious i will be your workout bud on here we can progress to buffness for this summer since we the same build . you got be very serious though because i am pure will power :)

Both of you will see gains in the first three weeks because you're just starting out ... after those three weeks if you don't have proper nutrition, you'll probably see little to no gains.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news either...  but 30 lbs by summer is around 2 lbs of lean muscle gain a week.  That would be extraordinary.  A more modest, and attainable goal would be an 10-15 lbs by summer.  1 lb a week is generally a very challenging goal.

i am good with 15lbs by summer .. can you help us by telling us the best way to get that gain ???

i do not know anything about nutrition .. what would be a good nutrition plan for someone with very little time to prepare meals ?? add lots fruit and raw veggies ?? can i supplement the nutrition with vitamin pills with my milkshakes ??? what should we be looking most importantly at adding to a diet ??

ok man since you don't know anything about nutrition start with the basics, oatmeal protein shakes chicken steaks, rice and do not forget water possibly the most impt of all you should drink at least 3/4 gal to a gal per day and as you get bigger and more dedicated that should be increased also you need to get on a online calculater and figure out how many calories.carbs.protein you need  per day and then take that and divide them out into 6 meals through out the day the best time to get your protein is right when you wake up in the morn and after you get out of the gym also. another good idea is to eat some lo fat cottage cheese before bed because it has a slower releasing protein which will help with muscle breakdown while your sleeping

SS....don't be discouraged.  Be careful about getting into an arms race at the gym, or you're going to hurt yourself.  If you hurt yourself, you can't train to get stronger.

Furthermore, ask yourself a few questions:

What are your goals?

What are you eating?

What training regimine is best for you?  There are many different ones out there - some are for power, others for strength, others for hypertrophy.

How are you measuring results?

*********************************************************

In the short term, I'll have you know that, coming from someone who has been on and off with the gym scene for years, you will make great gains in about a month's time.  If you are just patient and don't stress yourself, you also won't get injured.  Can't stress that enough.

However, weightlifting isn't just about your muscles' physical capability.  There's a connection between your brain and your muscles that has to be trained.  There's a technical term for it that I can't think of, but as your brain gets used to the stimulus, it is more comfortable devoting more resources to your workout, and is much less inhibited to using more muscle fibers.  In other words, your brain has to get used to the new stimulus before it can interact with it.

Couple that fact with your actual physiological adaptation to the training, and you'll notice a huge gain in how much weight you can lift.  It doesn't necessarily mean you are any stronger, have any more muscle, or any less body fat, but it's a huge step in the right direction.  You'll feel it, and it's at that point that you will start to make positive gains.  You're "in the green"."

Take a deep breath, take it easy, and stay informed.  Nutrition fuels your workouts and aids in muscle recovery.  Wendy's doesn't fuel workouts.

hey all thanks so much for the advice its a real motivator , unfortunatly i have only gone to the gym three times now.
last two weeks i have experienced sore muscles and weakness in my muscles... for no apparent reason , even in muscles i havent worked out. i had a blood test and the doc said my muscles were inflamed.
it could be from a flu   , the gym , alcohol or even something serious , i wont know until i do another blood test which im getting done tomorrow , but i am devistated i wanna reach my goals so bad and as soon as i buckle down and give it my all , this happens , wish me luck guys! i hope its nothing and i can get healthy and back on track!
thanks guys

muscle soreness?  don't go overboard here.  Try and tough it out. certainly take it easy in the gym, but don't get prescribed all sorts of dream drugs.

Sorry, I just hate the prescription drug trade
