hey, I have a realll problem gaining weight , Im trying to build muscle mass & look bigger & stuff, .I mean, I do take the right amount of protein a day necesarry to build tha muscles, but, getting in tha calories from healthy food is sooo hard, I get so full & i just cant stuff myself, so I was thinking about getting my calories from , junk foods, like cookies, fried chicken, burgerking, icecream, u know... like just including them in my diet to reach the right amount of calories i need to gain weight. now I am kinda lean 5'8 154lb , & im not afraid to get fat, cuz fat converts into muscle when u work out right? so i wanted to know that if junk food shrinks yor muscles, or if it just covers u with fat, & at that, u can convert it to muscle, or if its all just pointless becuz fat is really useless or what?

fat converts into muscle when u work out right? first of all, no, fat does not convert into muscle. fat is a totally different thing, it goes on top of the muscle quote:
so i wanted to know that if junk food shrinks yor muscles, or if it just covers u with fat, & at that it just covers you with fat

8pack's absolutely right. Fat is a totally different substance than muscle, but for some reason the myth's still out there that you can turn one into the other- Totally false. The only possible way it could happen- By a stretch of the term "Turn fat into muscle"- would be if you were to burn some fat off during a workout that built some muscle. But even then, the fat isn't transforming into muscle, it's being used as fuel for your workout to build it. Stay away from the junk food. Besides being fattening, there are other reasons you shouldn't rely on it for your nutritional needs- Nice, healthy food has all sorts of other good vitamins, etc. in it that you'll never find in junk- Plus, nice healthy food won't clog your arteries over the years, or cause any of the other health problems associated with junk food. Not all calories are the same, you'll just have to stick to eating the good stuff like the rest of us if you want the best results.

Yes you are both right but I do believe it is way easier to workout when you have more fat on you for the exact reason you said its used fro fuel.

Good fuel is carbohydrates. Which is not fat. Fat is pretty much useless other then insulation and in the old days when you might go weeks without food and need a "food" source. But today? Other then insulation and protection for organs, not much.

Exactly. There's no substitute for good food, and bodyfat is NOT a real source of fuel for good workouts- Sure, it's great when you get rid of it as a result of working out/using it as fuel, but your real source of energy should be food. Nature gave us and other members of the animal kingdom fat to help get us through times when we needed to survive in cold weather when there's not a lot of food around- Like MDA said, fat keeps you warm- And when there's no food, your body can survive off it- Survive, not thrive. There's simply no way a three hundred pound fat man can decide to start working out and build any sort of real muscle with just the fat on his body- That's just not the way things work. In my earlier post, when I referred to fat being used as fuel for a workout, it was only to make the stretch of logic as to how fat could be "turned into" muscle- I definitely wasn't advocating the use of fat as a serious bodybuilding fuel.
