I want to lose fat but in order to retain my muscle i drink a protein shake does it really matter what i eat or drink if i do cardio 3x's a week and lift weights everday except sunday?

Yes it does. The key to maintaining muscle whilst dropping fat, is by doing it slowly in the presense of a high protein diet, at just below maintenance calories.  Diet will have more of a factor on progress than training.

Your workout sounds like you might be bordering on overtraining.  If you want to preserve muscle, might want to consider reducing your weight training to 3 days a week and your cardio to non-lifting days.
Squat 385, Bench 235, Deadlift 450 @ 181.

Im actually doing a very similar workout, and let me tell you nutrition does matter. At first I didn't really watch what I eat but now I do. Either way though, as soon as you get running into your regular workout, your metabolism improves drastically. Another important thing you should take into consideration is sleep. I assume on those cardio days, you won't be lifting weights, but your body still needs rest. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep, NO Less THAN 7. Ideally the best time to go to sleep is about an hour before midnight as well :)  Anyways man, Take Care.  ~
