hi, i was looking through the board, and was thinking about alternatives that people use for equipment. i used to set my squat rack on the highest setting and put a barbell in place to perform pull ups, and used a couple of chairs before i had a power rack as support should i have needed it! there may be other threads on this subject that i have missed, but i was wondering what other people use as make-shift equipment?

A good way to stretch your back is to get a towel and hold each end behind your head. Have a wide grip and do some side bends...I always feel great and loose after.

A simple thick piece of rope can work wonders- Add some weight on one end, instant wrist/forearm workout. You can buy a similar setup complete with a handle that you twist to roll the weight up, but no sense in spending the cash if you have some rope handy. Also, you can use the same rope, tie it around your waist with weight hanging off the end between your legs, and do weighted dips instead of spending the money on a dip belt. Throw weight on one end of a barbell, position the unweighted end in a corner wrapped with a towel so as not to damage the walls, throw some thick rope around the weighted end, and now you're set up for T-bar rows. Set your bench up for decline presses, raise the barbell to a decent height on the uprights, support your bodyweight with your feet on the bench, grab the bar and do reverse pushups- Excellent upper back exercise.

I read a post on bodybuilding.com on using milk jugs and filling them with different levels of water... They actually made an entire workout based using milk jugs and a few common household items.... Pretty cool if you don't have any fundage for any type of equipment.
