RE: eatting disorders - Sunday, June 29, 2008 6:21 AM
Well first and foremost I would see a professional who will help you much more than anyone on here can.  If I were to give you advice, I would say to ease up on your diet routine a little.  If bodybuilding isn't what provides your income, then you don't need to be so strict.  You can still eat clean, just have a few treats here and there and you won't need to feel like you have to binge every night. If you are hungry after 7:30, just snack on some nuts or something to kill the cravings.  You just have to relax with the food thing and realize that bodybuilding isn't the most important thing in the world.  There is friends, family, etc.  I used to be somewhat "anal" about my meal timing and counting calories and all of that stuff.  Now I have realized that I am not trying to be a professional here, so I stopped counting, timing, and measuring my meals and just started to eat whole, natural, unprocessed foods when I am hungry...not when the clock says "2:15" or whatever, just when I'm hungry (although it turns out that I am hungry about every 3 hours anyway).  My gains have not slowed down, and I have even cut out all supplements and used the extra money on organic/local food, and I feel the best I ever have.

If you are really into bodybuilding and you WANT to have such a strict schedule, then just plan a cheat here and there so you have something to look foward to and don't feel the need to binge.  It is probably easiest to plan your cheats around times you know there will be unhealthy food available, like when you are with friends or at a family gathering.  Once I switched to whole, organic and natural foods, I NEVER feel cravings or the "need" to cheat.  I would also look into getting metabollicaly typed, you may be eating the wrong foods for you and that may be causing the cravings.  Believe me, once I decided to let go of the strict schedule I was on, it felt like I quit a job that I wasn't getting paid for.  There was nothing better than eating a big square of my grandma's baklava for the first time I had in a while, and waking up the next morning and saying "Oh, I still have abs"!!  This was about a year ago, and I am in much better shape now than I was then.  So, moral of the story, ease up a bit!!!

I almost went anorexic before I discovered body-building
It went from fat-> almost anorexic->bodybuilding lol
It takes a while to recover from being really skinny to gainin muscle
I lost a lot of muscle in that path =/

Maybe you are not eating enough during the day and then you binge at night to make up for lost calories. I eat so much during the day that I dont want to eat that much after dinner really. When you "binge", how much do you eat?

If you think you might have a major issue then I would seek a proffesional opinion

Good call Daniel!
My oldest daughter has battled with anorexia nervosa for the past 10 years...what you are describing here...to the best of my limited knowledge...is not an eating disorder! It's a rationalization.
What are your goals?
Are you losing excess bodyweight and struggling with it?
Give us a little more to go on,and I'm sure there's someone who can help or come up with some good tips for dealing with the cravings.

I am sure you can get diagnosed with something in the DSM IV. We all fall under something.

I think it is a willpower thing. you are not as busy at the end of the day then you gorge on food. I think your meals during the day are not enough so by the end of day you are super hungry.

you said it is a habit. you can learn new habits towards what/how you eat.

i lose my head and binge on all the **** food that my mother buys for my brother.
I really need some help curving these habbits.

Are you talking about twinkies, hoho's, and other simple sugary foods? One of the hardest addictions to break is sugar. If you are having trouble in this area, do not go cold turkey. Get yourself off of them slowly. Go two days without any, then move up to one week, then two weeks til you get to one month. Before you know it you will not want any of them. At that point, stay off them, one bite is like giving a drink to a recovering alcoholic. Last candy bar I had was a bag of M&M's back in Jaunuary. Go slow, it will work
